Sim Shaking with "Sim Racing Studio"

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,

I use my PC besides IL-2 Great Battles also for Sim Racing. For Sim Racing I have a dedicated motion rig and there I use also the wind Simulation kit of the Canadian Company SIM RACING STUDIO.

SIM RACING STUDIO has Hardware and Software for wind Simulation, Motion and Sim Shaking. They support now also the Sim Shaking Option for IL-2 Great Battles.

I am considering buying their Software for Sim Shaking, I am still not sure if I shall use my own Buttkicker Advance which I have or if I should buy their Sim Shaking Hardware kit with the seat cushion, which has 4 Shaker transducers inside!?

This is the BASIC Shake kit:

This the more advanced Shake kit:

in my experience these little tiny shakers are OK if you're in to some very tiny feedback, pretty much a localized massage of 3x3" area..

I prefer when my whole seat/shoulders/legs are feeling the vibration, and for that those 8w shakers are very very weak. For racing as a minimum you need 4 x 50w ones attached to the sides of the seat/pedals frame..

here's my racing setup..

Thanks very much for your Input. Nice Sim Rig. What you say makes sense to me and I did decide already not to use the Sim Shake cushion. I will use my Buttkicker Advance. Still did not decide which Software I will use, the one from Andre or the one from Sim Racing Studio..

Do you have 2 different rigs, 1 for Racing and 1 for Flying? That would be my dream.

I use only 1 rig for both, flight and racing, so I have to make compromises.

EDIT:

I did install my Buttkicker ADVANCE. I drilled 4 holes into my SPARCO seat and mounted it directly at the back. Just put some damping material between the seat and the Buttkicker to protect the seat from any damage due to the strong vibrations, the ADVANCE has a lot of power and I use not even 50% of it´s power, which is still a lot.

I get the vibrations directly into my seat and that feels great and real.

yeah, I do. :) The flying rig is the first one I got from Next Level Racing primarily for .. racing. That was before IL2 got the VR support. I was using it for Dirt Rally and later added the NLR motion platform to it.  Then I converted it in to a flying rig, however didn't use the motion platform for Il2 as it was an underwhelming experience. Not because of IL2 motion telemetry, but because the NLR platform is a basic 2 x Dof system and is very limited in its operation with the flight simulators.  So I ended up getting a second rig (r-seat) specifically for racing and attached the NLR platform to it, which is OK for DR1, DR2, not super great but it's at least something. So now I have 2 dedicated rigs one for each.  And my sim-shakers are actually powered by the NLR Platform Manager, it has a tactile feedback option on top of driving the motion platform itself..  I looked in to SimVibe but the product being German it has a very limited customer support, I swore never to use it after some bad experience with its configuration and lack of any coherent documentation, etc.. to me it's a hobby software, which if free would've been great, but paying $90 for it and getting zero result was very upsetting...

But your rig with 3 DoF is awesome (or is it 5 DoF?)!!! That actuator under your seat really adds to immersion in racing for sliding and some G force simulation.... I was actually looking in to building a similar one but then I realized I didn't have that much time for researching all of the components, blue-prints, etc..

Yes, great you have 2 rigs. Nice Setup you have. I have 4 DOF Hyperaxis additional with Seat Belt Tension System done by a SCN actuator and under the seat another Hyperaxis which turns the seat for traction loss. the 100mm Hyperaxis are perfect for Racing, for flying not so much, because I don´t get enough pitch and bank angle. For "flying an Airliner or a Cessna" that works, for IL-2 with all the barrel rolls, loopings and stuff not so great My Motion System is really optimized for Sim Racing, my most favorite is iRacing,

I have been thinking of trying the software from Andre with my Buttkicker. Has anyone tried these together? What was your experience?

Hey I'm another Sim racer/flight simmer. Good to see there's a few of us.

I have an Obutto Ozone so I have to switch between flying and driving modes by swapping out my wheels and pedals. Wow that 80/20 rig with both setup looks amazing. Very clean Joe. That explains why I've barely raced this past year IL-2 is too good I don't want to swap in my wheel.

I want to use my one Buttkicker under my chair with SimShaker in IL-2 as well as try it in iRacing with Andreas software.

Hi Kestrel79,

swapping wheels and pedals...if I would do that all time, I would get mad, that is the reason why my flight pedals are on the Floor and my Racing Pedals connected to the Rig and my throttle quadrant is on a stand next to my rig, that is all not optimum, but a compromize.

Good to know that so many of us want to use the Sim Shaking Option with Buttkickers in IL-2 now. I am soooo very thankful to Jason and his Dev Team that they made it possible now with the latest update. Sim Shaking adds sooo much immersion to a Software, I am really looking forward to it.

Oh yes, I would also like to get some feedback, maybe you will try it. For me it is planned but must find a solution how to mount my Buttkicker. Once it works I will provide feedback,

That's a nice rig, Joe.  I'm running an Obutto Revolution, and don't really have the space to set up a second rig for racing so I too just 'swap out', but your system is far more elegant and less time consuming than mine.  It looks like you stay back to fly, and slide forward to race?  Or do you have to also move the rudder pedals out of the way?

I'm also running Sim Racing Studio for the wind sim kit (two Seaflo blowers), but using SimCommander for the shakers (one front, one rear) since I'm already running it for the DD wheel, but I'm just now getting back into IL2 and switching out of iRacing so I'll transition to SRS for the IL2 support.  Does the wind sim kit work at all with IL2?  It wouldn't make realistic sense for sealed WW2 birds, but would be great for Flying Circus.

I have the same setup with Andre's software.  You need a second soundcard for it to work properly with the buttkicker.  You need the wings software and the bass shaker add-on with it.  Works great!

Hello guys. I can say following…..stay away from Sim Racing Studio for IL-2, the shaking effects are not great and sadly the wind Simulation is not supported for IL-2

For Sim Shaking and IL-2 I use Andre´s Software, which is perfect and very well made.

Sim Racing Studio is the Software which I use only for sim racing…..for wind and shaking and that works superb.

@NervousEnergyI have my Heusinkveld Ultimate pedals mounted on my Motion rig and the Thustmaster flight pedals are on the flloor unattached, I don´t need to move them which makes everything easy.

I can just put my flight pedals in front of race ,but need to fix them off with a quick release options cause once the traction loss on rig kicks in things start  to slide.

I got my Obutto Ozone in simracing mode right now, so no flight stuff is hooked up. But I just got the Buttkicker working in iRacing's new built in support and it works great! I used the $7 USB soundcard that was recommended on here to run the Buttkicker on and it's worked great so far.

When I get sick of racing and ready to switch back to flying I'll hook it up with Andre's software and take it for a spin.

So how does it set up with the usb sound card?

I haven't used it in IL2 yet, only with iRacing but it was very easy. I plugged the little USB soundcard into a USB port on the back of my PC, and plugged in the Buttkicker into the green jack on back. My headphones are still plugged into my onboard sound on my motherboard.

Then in iRacing in the sound settings I tell the game to look for the USB Soundcard for Shaker effects, and it works. Very simple.

IL2 may be a little different cause you need to configure the Simshaker effects outside of the game.
