Aurora_Stealth Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Hello all, I have played the games of the Il2 series since their inception, god knows how many years i dare not say! Just so we can be clear on some facts - i have provided some information to make informed decisions about flight models for our developers and readers. In the past we have seen abuse of facts, by members of the il2 development team; for political reasons specifically on performance of the Bf 109. I won't go into any further detail as its a sensitive issue. This will not be tolerated by the community. Soviet technical analysis of Luftwaffe fighters by comparison to Soviet (Soviet technical analysis) http://www.airpages.ru/eng/lw/bf109g2.shtml http://www.airpages.ru/eng/ru/fighters.shtml The world's top leading pilot in flight hours - Skip Holm on flying the Bf 109, and his colleague pilot Skip Holm - His analysis http://www.skipholm.com/willy-messerschmitt.htm James Holland, an extensive history of facts with relation to Battle of Britain, key to understanding the Bf 109 and setting the picture for future battles including Stalingrad Please watch from 26:00 - 36:00 mins for the facts on the Bf 109 from an RAF perspective I am currently writing a book, which has been written through 8 years of technical research, i also have contacts with Bf 109 G "Black 6" at Duxford. I had the honour of meeting one of her pilots, an ex-Squadron leader Dave Southwood who had a high opinion of her. I can also provide information and my research on request so please just ask. By a strange coincidence I too have played the games of the IL2 series since their inception and I'm part of the 'community' too! There's quite a few guys on these boards now who can claim the same. However, I've never felt I've had the need or authority to speak on the behalf of this community. I seem to remember the lead developer of the IL2 series as a cheerful guy with a strong background in Russian aviation who was always anxious to get things just right where he could and even enjoyed flying online with his fellow simmers. Infact I've been shot down by him a couple of times while he was flying his favourite ride - the BF109!! This Skip Holms guy sure seems a very experienced pilot. Exactly how many combat-hours has he got on the '109?
AX2 Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) How many combat-hours has a developer on the '109? Skip Holm ! Only a..."guy" sure seems a very experienced pilot ..... ?? Edited April 3, 2013 by Mustang
Aurora_Stealth Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 Look we all have opinions, can we just stick to the facts please. That is all i'm asking here, its very easy for people to make generalisations - its important that a full range of evidence is examined here from people who are not just enthusiasts but genuine pilots and engineers who understand aircraft performance principles. I would hope that people would appreciate information that comes from experienced pilots and engineers such as myself. If you know of anyone available arthursmedley who could give a more balanced opinion than Skip Holm based on flight experience; then I'm all ears. Otherwise please enough opinion and sarcasm. And yes I do assume authority - I'm a pilot and an aerospace project engineer; and at 23; one of the youngest and most successful engineers to be working on the Boeing 787. If you want anymore info I can send you a package with my business card. Can we please move on now..
AndyJWest Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 can we just stick to the facts please Yes. Leave the conspiracy theories for another forum. And start with the salient facts that (a) we haven't seen the results of flight modelling, and (b) neither the Spitfire nor the P-51 are going to appear in BoS.
AX2 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) I really would have liked to see actual video of the La's or Yak's I think the best is the calm, open the mind, and enjoy the videos! I just find this video , Click and go to Youtube. BF 109 G10. I could see a good dispaly, interesting... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnpC_BcK7xY Edited April 11, 2013 by Mustang 1

I've been flying in some form or fashion and studying aerodynamics since I was 5, and have been in aerospace engineering for 21 years. I'm 41 and would never think of "assuming authority"... I appreciate your youthful passion and dedication to get things right. That said, please move on without all the drama of your last 3 sentences. Thanks. 4

SimHog Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 And so it begins ... Plane A is porked vs. Plane A is OP Pilot A says plane A flew like this during the war vs. Pilot A is an 90 year old fart who's suffering dementia and can't be a reliable source. I'm an aeronautical engineer ... blah blah blah ... like seriously!? As soon as someone puts a point of view or opinion they're immediately attacked in one way or another, both directly or indirectly. FFS ... how about contributing to the discussion rather than bitching and jostling for the high ground. This is EXACLTY how it all starts and soon it'll be another failed sim, and it's not like we've got a massive selection to choose from .. .so think a little before you post will ya! 1
