Fokker D7F nose heavy

Recommended Posts

Anyone else feels the Fokker D7F is strangely nose heavy? I remember in ROF it would climb hands free, especially if you had full altitude throttle engaged. Now I find myself trying to hold the nose up constantly.

Yeah this changed a few patches ago when they made changes to a few other craft.  You'll get used to it after a while.

Haven't noticed this but I have a FFB stick.

yes, the pitch was changed on all the planes and the trim wheel was fixed on the SE5a.

Yes it is nose heavy. It's not right IMHO. But before fix there was much worst thing with Se5 -  you wouldn't be able to use stabilizer to make it level flight hands off . Now you can fly it hands off as real airplane.

Yeah, it's not like I can't bear it. But just feels a bit wrong.

It seems to me that the pitch was changed globally for all FC aircraft via "one size fits all" kind of approach. In case of D7F, it doesn't seem to fit very well.

Not much in FC seems to "fit well"

Bidu,

I'm using a 2016 Cybertron; nothing special; just barely powerful enough to run the sim, my CH controls, and Oculus Rift.

I fly ROF and FC1 as they come out of the box: no adjustments to anything.  Plug and play.  And I have never had a problem with the sims themselves or with how any of the planes fly.

I've heard people speak of pitch problems for the Dr.1 in FC1 before; and now the D7?

I focused on the Dr.1 for a couple years and  never had a pitch problem with it.  Lately I've gone back to the Camel, Scout, Pfalz, D7, and Brisfit; jumping back and forth from one plane to another and not having any problems.

Because I used to teach milkstool jockies how to fly the taildragger; I think I understand what the control inputs should be like in planes of this approximate size, power, and weight.  I find the FC1 flight models behave characteristically.  I don't have any problem flying any of them and there's nothing I'd ask the Devs to change.

I noticed it too with the D.VII.

The DRI is ridiculously pitch-up-twitchy and a total nightmare to stay on target. Wasn't like that in RoF or earlier in FC.

may be an issue with the DVIIF. Have not had much of a chance to test, but according to this, it should be tail heavy:

They adjusted the tail heaviness because people complained about having to hold forward stick.  Miss the tail heaviness that the SPAD XIII had before they changed it.

Some of the planes were extremely tiresome (in the pain in the ass sense) to fly if you had a stick with a short throw.  The DVII wasn't really one of them, but got caught up in the blanket pitch adjustment.

I know this will sound dumb, but what are the trim tabs for? I can't get them to work.

You can only trim aircrafts in FC which had a trim wheel in their cockpit, it seems only the S.E.5a is trimable in FC...

Bristols are too if I remember correctly. This is form of horizontal stabilizer rather than trim tabs.

You are probably right about that, haven't checked that out yet.

Can confirm that the Bristol does indeed also have them. (it is the hand brake like lever next to your seat on the right)
