vadupleix7 Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Hello All, AFked for a while and I am super excited that the spit XIV is finally coming. Just wondering if there’s any indication of which version of the xiv are we getting? Will it have a bubble canopy? I did a brief search on the forum but didn’t find anything. Thanks!
BlitzPig_EL Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Not known yet. Most are speculating it will be the razor back version, rather than the bubble canopy one. Only time will tell.

=621=Samikatz Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 If I had to guess, one of the earlier C ones to better fit the BoN timeline. So raised back, potentially .303s instead of .50s, etc
ShamrockOneFive Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Given the timeline I would put it as a conventional "razorback" version (if that term applies to the Spitfire) rather than the cut down bubble canopy version. The Spitfire XIV, despite being kind of an "ultimate" Spitfire variant, was around and in RAF service for quite some and by mid 1944 was starting to get into regular squadron service although they ended up keeping them back to deal with the V-1 threat. That's after facing the tail end of the 'tip and run' raids on the English coast. So I would guess it'll be Spitfire F.XIV and either with a C or an E-wing or ... maybe both! A large number were E-wing but the earliest of them were C-wing.
Legioneod Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 What are it's power settings? Was it 25lb boost as standard or was it more or less? I don't know anything about the Spitfire so I'm curious to know how it will differ from the IX.

Diggun Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 She looks like a Merlin spit after a 20 year career as a heavyweight boxer... 5

Diggun Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 does she sit slightly nose high in flight? or is the spinner looking off center an optical illusion?
Megalax Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 4 minutes ago, [_FLAPS_]Diggun said: does she sit slightly nose high in flight? or is the spinner looking off center an optical illusion? Downthrust. Looks a bit exaggerated though. To give my 2 cents on the OP's question: The high back hooded XIV. The Bubbletop FR. XIV wasn't present during Normandy. 1

Trooper117 Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 There is no such thing as a razor back Spitfire gentlemen... the cheek!

The E type wing was starting to reach squadrons mid-March '44 and completely phased out the .303 installations shortly after D-Day.
