ShadowStalker887 Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 So there has been several short discussions on this forum about this particular topic already, but since we have had BoN with its V1 missions announced I felt it was a good time to start a topic about it. Examples of things to discuss are the aircraft used to intercept V1's, how these missions where done and what potential new mechanics (like radar ground control) might be needed. I'm also interested in any data about potential tuning or modification done to these aircraft to aid in these missions.
danielprates Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 I am specially curious to know if the V1s will appear from off-map, or if there will be modeling of the launch sites, if they will be launched from the ground etc.

I mention this because there has been talk of AI bombers coming from off-map, maybe this is a good opportunity to test the principle. Also.... I am not quite sure, but weren't the V1 launch sites farther north on the coastline, than what is covered in the normandy map?
cardboard_killer Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 I think they were moved back from Pas-de-Calais after the breakout, but lots of sites in PdC, on the BoN preliminary map. There were some in Normandy, but I don't think they were ever operational before they were captured. There was also the offense against Antwerp after it's capture, but I don't know if the BoBp map includes the launch site areas, presumably in Germany.

Talisman Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 With the current in-game air-to-air visibility model, I suggest it will be extremely difficult to pick up a V1 (without on-screen aircraft icons on), spot it and maintain contact to shoot it down. Happy landings, 56RAF_Talisman
cardboard_killer Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Follow the radar directed AA bursts.
sevenless Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Maybe some mechanism of ground control directing you to the launched V1 will be necessary if you are on an interception patrol ?

ShamrockOneFive Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 I am looking forward to this. I'd love to participate in some "anti-diver" patrols as well as the Crossbow mission type where V-1 sights were sought out and destroyed. Makes a unique and interesting target zone with the launch rails, probably lots of flak, and the potential for large explosions

cardboard_killer Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Where they were really isn't as important as where the allies thought they were and bombed, since that's what we're recreating. Wikipedia has a list of "notable attacks".

I think historically, once the V1 was past the fighter cover responsibility zone and in range of the AA cover zone the intercepting aircraft kept out of the way of the guns and stayed in their own zone. I stand to be corrected though if that is not so. Happy landings, 56RAF_Talisman
cardboard_killer Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 No, you're right. I was being facetious.
