Longitudinal trimming: Me262

What's the best way to trim the 262?

Since there are no numbers or a dial on the cockpit control it is difficult  to know what settings to use for take off, landings or differing bomb/weapon/armour or fuel loads, or speed. All of which affect c of g and will need to be adjusted. For instance after dropping bombs?

Just adjust in level flight? But that is rather tricky...

There is a pitch trim indicator in the Me 262. It is located on the left side of the cockpit just in front of the throttles. Requiem put together a fantastic video that covers trim settings for takeoff and landing (embedded below). I am not sure about what the trim settings should be for different bomb loads, but it shouldn't be any different than trimming any other aircraft for level flight.

Here ya go, this should provide some interesting tips for ya if you haven't already come across it:   http://zenoswarbirdvideos.com/Images/Me262/262PilotHandbook.pdf

What's interesting is RAF and American test reports (and this handbook) note that the elevator boost tabs (Flettner tabs) had been deactivated by the Germans sometime before the aircraft were captured and that this appeared to be the case on all aircraft they inspected.  It doesn't seem to be known, in these reports, when this modification was done or if any aircraft were even delivered to any operational units with functioning elevator boost tabs while the aircraft we have in game does have operational boost tabs modeled.  While the advantage of boost tabs at speed are obvious, the possible loss of feel and overcontrolling at low speed may have prevented their adoption as with the 109 aileron boost tabs*.  Neither here nor there, really, the flight model will be the flight model regardless.  Just an interesting (to me) observation.

*The 109G-10/K was intended to have boosted (Flettner tab) ailerons and some aircraft were actually delivered with them but they were all apparently deactivated at the factory.

Also - FHCAM (restoring 262 to flying condition with Jumos) has stated their aircraft will have the elevator boost tabs deactivated as that appears to be the way the aircraft (Me262A-1a/U3 white 25) was operated.

Never had a need for rudder trim in the 262.

What do you do when an engine fails?
