[RG]Flanker1985 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 This has always been an issue of mine for a long time, every since the original IL-2. Do you guys have any idea how to accurately drop a bomb on somebody when you are flying a fighter? It is quite hard since there is no bomb sight of any sort. I haven't tried on this game. But back in the original IL-2, those AI fighters can do a low level level-bombing. It that really doable? Any one who are good at this, please share some light.
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Dive-bomb, use the gun sight. It is what they did to get pinpoint accuracy during the war. When fighters got to good to risk dive-bombing, the air-various forces switched to level bombing and improved bomb-sights. Dive-bombing still gave better accuracy though.
[RG]Flanker1985 Posted April 16, 2014 Author Posted April 16, 2014 (edited) Thanks mate. I did tried dive-bomb. It is more accurate. But I just don't understand how can one drop a 50kg bomb accurately in a strafe run to blow up a Tank. They are so small. Using a dive run on a fighter could pick up a lot of speed. SvAF/F19_Klunk Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 .. it takes practice Dart made some excellent video tutorials for IL2 1946, there is a clip about "how to mount a ground attack". Check 2.13 in (Bombs). Even though I wouldn't call his tactics as dive bombing per se, it could still be applied? 1
BMA_West Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Thx Klunk, Dart not only knows his IL2 1946 he also has some taste in music to
Georgio Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Thanks mate. I did tried dive-bomb. It is more accurate. I find it easier to take out tanks if you fly in level at about 250 ft., line up with the gun sight, then drop the bombs immediately when the target disappears from view. Make a track of your bombing runs and review at slow speed to see your accuracy.
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Personally, I find it easier to aim with the gun-sight in a dive, but everyone has a method that suits them best. The important thing is to find what works for you!

Feathered_IV Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Good on you Klunk. I was going to post some of Dart's videos too. They are still every bit as good as they were ten years ago or more. I still think of them every time I roll in on a target.
Sokol1 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Yes, it's valid for any CFS. But in BoS you need make some corrections in gunsight aim for rockets. Pe-2 for example I need use the mark above center or hit after target. Sokol1
Nil Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Use unlimited ammo for the attempts, look at your results in replay and see where and what works best. I spent an entire night in a PE-2 putting 100kg bombs right into tanks, so they blew up before the detonation even.. not sure if it's realistic, or if they eventually will fire back, but got quite a hang of it and got 3 tigers with 5 bombs as average (and exciting (really scary) landings got a little less exciting after each bombing run)
