is steam required for multi player?

Trying to decide weather to buy Bodenplatte from IL2 or steam. I know that if I buy through steam I need to buy Stalingrad first. My question is do I need to go through steam to play multi player or can I just get Bodenplatte and join a server?

You do not need Steam for multiplayer.

You can get BoBp from il2 store and joing MP. BUT you might only fly the planes you own. So you might not be able to fly early war maps/scenarios if they only have early war planes.

Probably not a big issue. If you like the game you Will get more BoX/DLC later on
