jollyjack Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 I know how to use the Camera Operator, but what can you do with the MCU 'Camera Point' ? In Jims manual i cannot find info about it's use ...
IckyATLAS Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 Camera Point allows you to dynamically move a camera along a trajectory defined by the camera points and you start and finish with a camera operator. This MCU allows triggering a Camera Operator like th F12 button. But because you cannot switch from a camera operator to your cockpit back except if you hit the F1 key it is limited in ingame applications. You can in this way overfly an object a city a battle field an airfield or a region. The system will interpolate from one point vie to the other one smoothly but you have to take care that these orientations are not too different. I tested it and it works well. This feature is interesting I would say mainly to make cinematics. For the gaming part unfortunately it is not straightforward to use. On additional feature that would have been very useful to have an event for planes like OnPlaneParked (Engine Stopped and plane does not move). This means that you have not only landed but you do not move anymore. Then you could trigger a cinematic sequence with Camera Point and Camera Operator without interfering with you flying or taxi the plane on the ground. It is really unfortunate that so little is devoted to the ME and to really make of this tool a completely finished major mission and campaign design tool. There are many started but unfinished excellent features in the ME. If only one day they will spare some time for this. But it is a lost cause. 1 1

Yeah, the reason i like IL2 generally a lot is the things you can do via the Mission Editor; f.i. change or add some stuff in an existing mission. Just added some spice to an already nice Motherbrain FC mission. IMO this FMB is the most important part for computer rookies like me who are not too familiar with scripts etc, and even worse: coding and compiling. F.i. why can't you color the waypoint MCU's in regard to their objects an targets, so you get a better overview for grouping them ... I know black is beautiful, but in some cases i'd like to see clearly who the Indians are. Promise towards IL2: i'll pre-buy Normandy, but only after some decent FMB overhaul will or has been done, and some FC addons like water planes and bombers. And torpedo bombing, yeah !! . BTW Camera Point: Icky, you got me curious too if you could post some example on the 'How to Do" ! I guess by orientations you mean height and direction settings? Edited January 9, 2020 by jollyjack

WWSitttingDuck Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 could very well be things have change, but afaik camera point stopped working long time ago, when they did an update for ROF. It was great for making an "intro" to a scripted mission. Take pilots on a virtual tour of the elements inside the mission. But have to remember something about these triggers...if a pilot is in the middle of an engagement, and a camera of this sort is triggered in the mission, then all of a sudden they are in a camera view, and have to take the time to hit the right keys to get them back to cockpit view....by the time they do all this,,,they could be dead.
