vs Yak7 in QMB:

I can't maneuver: he out-maneuvers me. I cant climb. He activates the UFO mode and climbs with me. I tried to climb at 420 kmh... Can't lose him. Try to reach 1500 m altitude, then do a 1/2 roll and pull so that I change alt. for speed and try to, at least, create some horizontal distance between us. Fail. Try to cause a intentional accelerated stall, so that he misses his shot or something. Fail, as he just performs whatever maneuver is needed to keep track on me.

Frontal engage is not an option to me, yeah the 190 has devastating weapons... but frontal engaging is, to me, idiotic and risky and do not worth it. Plus, AI aiming is 500340923049 times better than mine, no matter the angle between the planes or speed or blah blah.

I can't do what I can with a ME262 against any AI plane: create horizontal distance, do a 2000m altitude insta-climb once my plane is going at ~750 Khm, then bounce him while laughing at the stalled AI plane while The Indomitable Beast dives at 900 kmh with no problem.

I can't do what I can with a 109 against any plane: outclimb it or outmaneuver it, depending if its a Yak, Mig, La, etc.

The only situations I shot down things with the 190 are:

1) When, for no aparent or good reasons, the enemy AI decide to flight straight, even if a plethora of tracers of my plane are all around him and rekting his plane. Boring as hell, since I feel like I'm killing a pilot who fall asleep in straight flight.

2) In Berloga, bouncing distracted enemies (Berloga is "easy" for that).

Idk why I even try, ME262 is my favorite (kinda obvious) and the 109 its just the "work-horse"... but the 190 looks pretty sexy and, in good hands, its god. What should I need to have those "good hands" that make the 190 work? I tried everything that my brain can imagine, with 0 effect.

One of the vast advantages of Fw-190 against a Yak or similar AC is the roll rate. One of the ways to use the better roll rate is to chain a series of small turns because then you'd offset the worse turn rate with the less time needed to go into next turn. For example horizontal (flat) scissors work really well against the AI Yaks.

The foregoing discussions of fighter performance concerned the aircraft's ability to change the orientation of its velocity vector and its energy state, that is, to turn, accelerate, or climb. This ability is "maneuverability" or "energy maneuverability." There are other important measures of fighter performance which do not fit this definition.

Roll performance, for example, is the ability of an aircraft to change the lateral direction of its lift vector. Since the lift force is primarily responsible for turning an aircraft, roll performance indicates the ability of a fighter to change its plane of maneuver. Therefore, although roll performance is not, in a strict sense, maneuverability, it does have a direct relationship with maneuverability. Roll performance may be defined as a measure of the aircraft's "agility."

[...]

Many of the effectiveness problems of roll-control devices occur at slow speeds or with high load factors (i.e., when the wings are generating close to their maximum lift). Therefore, if a pilot wishes to achieve maximum roll performance from his aircraft he should whenever possible unload before beginning the roll. Load factor can be reapplied once the lift vector is pointing in the desired direction. Efficient rudder technique can also improve roll performance. Rudder may even be the most effective roll-control device available for some fighters (especially those with sharply swept wings), particularly under high-lift conditions.

A roll-performance superiority has historically been exploited as an effective tool in guns-defense maneuvers. Since for steady guns tracking of a maneuvering target the shooter must have his aircraft's wings closely aligned with those of his victim, such tracking can be rendered practically impossible by an uncooperative defender who can change his plane of maneuver more rapidly than the attacker. Poor roll performance at high speed was one of the few characteristics of the Japanese Zero which could be exploited by the generally inferior American fighters early in World War II. Similarly, hydraulically boosted ailerons improved the agility of the American F-86 Sabre jets relative to their Russian MiG-15 adversaries in Korea. Lack of hydraulic assist continued to plague the later MiG-17 in Vietnam and the Middle East.

When people hear “Bf109,” they think impressive climb rate.

When people hear “Spitfire,” they think impressive turn rate.

When people hear “Tempest,” they think impressive speed.
When people hear “P-47,” they think impressive durability.

When people hear “Fw190” they think impressive roll rate. There’s a reason for that.

I forgot to add... And don’t worry I’m not a War Thunder c**t.

This video helped me massively when it came to helping me shake enemies on my six in the Fw-190.

The video is well made. It simply and quickly shows you the main rules to follow, and can apply to a lot of common situations.

The aircraft being studied is a P-63, but the same principles apply (superior roll rate to your enemy).

Those of you who struggle to shake a six check it out. TURN CAPTIONS ON

Words of advice:

#1 Speed is life.

#2 Fly with friends.

#3 Bring guns and 400L.

#4 Roll advantage works best when fast.

#5 Drag'n'Bag is the primary mode of combat.

thanks for the new input guys

I stopped playing any radial-engine 190 since this post, while kept trying some of Dora love. I struggle even with the Dora, and that's a really Uber plane. Maybe I'm just made for 109s and the 262, or just have to practice with the 190 A LOT more, and I mean, a lot, like from day 0 when I "took off" a 109 for the first time.

Do we have the actual roll rates of planes in the game at different speed ? While the roll rate of the FW might be sliglty better at low speed I'm pretty sure it's not when the speed increases.

I find this "advantage" to be a myth and far from helping in a 1 on 1 as it doesn't in any case outweigh  the rest as it's less efficient in pretty much everything.

The things that make a fighter good in 1v1 combat are not always the same things that make it good in group vs group combat.

Bottom line, whoever sees the other guy first usually wins.
