I fly only in VR so getting up to hit Esc just to get to settings or finish the mission is a right PITA ive deleted all the keyboard bindings, so there are no key conflicts everything i use in-game is on a seperate warthog or button box, switch/button (no same control on two separate buttons) ive set all the warthog switches to off/neutral so there are no stry keys being pressed (really shoudnt have to do that to use Esc and that only worked once) only things i get guaranteed to work are gear up/down and pause, fire, flaps and all axis. I have to use voice attack to reliably use the Esc command i know this is a known issue, but so far not found a single repeatable fix for this

Are none of your buttons responding at all, or you are having trouble mapping the 'open menu' button to something beyond the ESC key?
skunk160 Posted January 6, 2020 Author Posted January 6, 2020 i map buttons to commands, sometimes they are recognised once only, sometimes not at all, even after making sure there's no conflicts, Esc only ever works via voice attack, never on any button its assigned to. theres about 5 buttons that work reliably, each time. axises (sic?) all work no problem. but there are numerous command that are never recognised by button press, only keystrokes. i've cleared every keystroke, so the only game inputs are via joystick or button. not keyboard. - no joy ive cleared an gone to complete default keyboard + joystick and still no joy, exact same commands that were completely ignored are still ignored.

I see. A couple follow ups then: What are all the input devices you're using? Are you able to map the buttons in the Key mapping menu pretty reliably, or are the button presses unreliable there too? Some people have issues with being able to map buttons easily but not being able to use them in the game. It could be something in your devices.txt configuration file, sometimes that file gets corrupted or doesn't consistently recognize joysticks. I've never heard of it interfering with keyboards. Is your keyboard a gaming keyboard with extra functions or just a plain keyboard? Also, with voice attack, is it possible that the game is picking up input from voice attack and assuming a button is being pressed when it is not, and interfering with other key mapping? If you go into a quick mission, and while in flight go into the button mapping menu, can you map buttons there? If you do so, are they then recognized by the game during flight? Do you have any of the pilot assistance options in the difficulty settings accidentally turned on? Have you tried flying with voice attack completely off? If you open devices.txt in inputs folder of your game installation, are all your devices listed? Are there any duplicates or old controllers listed there? This may be a stupid question, but are you sure that all the commands are present in the plane you're flying? For example, some planes do not have trim, some have only a trim axis and some have only a trim button, some have automatic superchargers, some have boost ,others do not, some have toe brakes, some do not.
FlyingH Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Usually when the ESC key doesn´t work there is some other key comm blocking it´s signal! Check when it happens doing as follows, pause the game open a test editor (notepad or something ) and see if you get a letter written. If so unlock the swich corresponding and you´ve found your issue! Otherwise I can´t help!
DerAck Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 (edited) Greetings Alle Saitek X52 Pro, MS Sidewinder X4 KB, NVIDIA 580 Clssy GPU & (Currently) Win 7 Pro, MFG Crosswind, i7-3770K, 16GB DDR3/1866 MHz. It does appear I have the same problem as Skunk 160 - that being unable to ESC from within Flying Circus at end of flight or, any other time. The ESC mapping procedure accepts any and all of the offered Saitek buttons or switches - but does not function when applied to the operating Game session. I was test riding an Alby D.5a. All other controls function as selected . No duplicate mapping icons have been energized on any of the three columns pertaining to ESC. I haven't flown FC to any degree - purchased on 12/20/19 - am required to Control/Alt/ Delete or Power-Down to exit the Game - But, have flown & yet fly RoF since 2010.
