How to buy and give IL2BOS as a gift?

I know how it works if I buy BOS for me. But how does it work if I want to make it a gift to somebody?

Do I buy a key that I send to somebody's email so he can register and enter the code there?

Or do I have to register for him?

Do I have to enter his email here or so and bind a key to it?

I'd like to know before I start the buying process and realize mid-way that it's not the process I like.

This is what i can found on the buy page

Send a Gift to a Friend: We have also built a system to send gifts. Not only can you purchase a copy for yourself, but you can also purchase one or more copies of either edition per user account (email) and send it to a friend. You can activate one copy (digital key) on your account and send the others to friends, family or squadron mates.

i think you have to do it out of your profiel ,something like buy 1 more copy and then from there you can send it to a friend

If I'm not mistaken:

- buy another key;

- go to your profile and you'll see your second key unassigned;

- gift it to somebody (registered on this forum) by entering his nickname.

Thanks, guys! So to my understanding the receiver has to register first before I can grant him the gift.

I have then to link the key (that will be as an unactivated key in my profile) to his nickname. Does he need to activate it then?

Has anybody tried this feature already?

Yes, many times. It works well.

Thanks, BlackSix. One last question: Does the receiver need to be registered in this forum before I can send him the key to his email? Or can he just register afterwards to activate it in his account?

 I think you can use either receiver's nickname on forum or e-mail address.

Thanks, Flanker, but my question was: If I have the email address of that person I like to send the gift, does he need to register before I can enter his email address in the gift formula or can I basically enter any email address whether this person is registered here or not?

 I would think that you can send the gift code to anyone's e-mail address, but they have to register/create account on forums to actually activate the game and play.

Thanks, Flanker. I hope you're right :)

PS: Is master server down?

 I would guess devs wanted the system to be easy. But to make sure those receiving the code could politely be asked to register here for a nice surprise ;) Can't play at the moment so have not fired up BoS much :(

I bump this thread up in order to ask if it would be possible to send the gift notice by personal email to a non-registered person who then has to register in order to activate his game copy. In the notice email there could be an activation code.

I very much would like such a feature because this would give a surprise effect to the gift. Rather than awkwardly asking a person to register so he can receive the gift. Is a bit like telling a friend that he got a present but he has to fetch it himself at the post office.
