J-52 pilots do you use flaps?

I just started with the ju-52 and the flap selection is rather different then the other bombers and fighters.

Seems you need to move the horizontal stab after activating the flaps.

My question is do many of you here use the flaps at all? Seems the junkers can slow down pretty good and seems to float pretty well at low speeds.

the only real reason I have found that I needed flaps was for short runways with rather steep approaches like below.

I used to fly the Ju52 a lot once upon a time. I really liked how the flaps were connected to the stabilizer. I always used flaps and can't ever remember not using them so I can't speak for its no-flap vs flap landing performance.

Nice spot, lovely approach.. but the landing was kind of hard. I would try flying more of that crosswind leg and holding more slip, so you can have more space for the final roundout.

Probably few as our lives come cheap. The flaps are mainly there to get a suitable attitude for slow flight. And what those flaps do is offsetting the nose up you get from flying slow. I always use them, it‘s a fun part of Ju52 flying.

I should ask real Ju52 pilots next time I see them at the airfield about their opinion.

I don't know any other planes that the flaps are connected to the stab do you?

That would be interesting to get the take on a real junker pilot!

The JU87 and JU88 Horizontal Stabilizer it Automatically Adjusted Based off the Flap Position ir retrims the stab.
