I dont have all the fancy cooling fans in my case. Not sure I would want to OC it.

You don't need fancy cooling fans for RAM.  What type of RAM do you have and I can check how easy it will be to overclock.  In some cases all you do is change the RAM multiplier from 30 to 32, up the voltage by 0.2 and test.

Hey all, after some pondering and some research I decided to get the Intel i7-9700k (with new mobo and all) to hopefully improve my VR experience like I said in my first post. I'll try to keep you updated on the results, as soon as I upgrade my rig, so maybe we can help some others with the results! :salute:

Thanks for the update Shady, enjoy and good luck.

If you have the time could you please run the Remagen benchmark so we get a reference on what your 2600 gets?  You can then compare to the 9700K to see how much it has improved.  My 2700X with 2060 Super got the following, which is ~ 25% less than a 5GHz i7 (but remember this is removing the GPU from the equation).  So expect a decent improvement in your new PC.

Motherboard:    Asus Crosshair VI Hero
CPU:    2700X
CPU Freq:    4.3GHz
L3 Cache:    2x8MB
Cores:    8
HT:    On
RAM Type:    DDR4
RAM Size:    16GB
NB Freq:    1700
RAM Freq:    3400
RAM Latency:    16
GPU:    1060S
STMark:    2254

Frames: 22277 - Time: 180000ms - Avg: 112.650 - Min: 75 - Max: 191

I'll try my best and do that today :)

From personal experience, I have the R5 3600 and it´s definitely not the limiting factor in VR.

CPU frametimes are well below the 11.11ms (or in your case 12.5ms) limit at all times.

The limiting in VR for me has always been my OC´d RTX 2060 which usually struggles, but especially so near the ground.

Are results based online or in singleplayer?

Hey all,

It's been a while but I've upgraded the rig now to the 9700k, replacing my R5 2600. Unfortunately I did not have time to do benchmarks on my old system, so this sort of an unscientific comparison. Also, I did not yet OC my i7-9700k, so I'm comparing the stock 9700k here to a slightly OC'd Ryzen 5 2600 (3.8 GHz). Obviously I will OC my CPU in the future :P

Anyhow, directly after my first flight I noticed a huge improvement. In a Quick Mission 8v8 flight, the CPU easily maintains a steady 80 FPS, according to OTT, something which was tricky with my Ryzen system. CPU frametimes have dropped from 12-13-14 ms to 8-9 ms with the new i7. Same applies to career mode, which is definitely a lot more fun now with good framerates. The biggest improvement is a noticeable decrease in frame drops and way more stable frame rates.
When I turn up the graphics settings and SS, the 40 FPS with ASW turned on is also way more smooth compared to the Ryzen system. FPS is more stable and less stutters, drops, etc. Nothing against Ryzen, but I feel like IL-2 in VR is one of the few things Intel still does a little better :)

The game runs perfectly now in VR. I'm really happy, and I'd like to thank all of you for the advice, y'all saved me lol. Salute!
