Twins, engine 1 and engine 2 vs right engine and left engine

It should be much easier and realistic if instead of engine 1 and engine 2 in game, we used right and left.

If you fly a twin like the P38, it has one gauge, look at the manifold pressure needles and rpm needles there is an R and an L for right and left engine.

Its more intuitive and less confusing.

There is a reason in  aviation prop planes right and left are used, in an emergency those seconds count.

A 20, German and Russian twins, left gauge left engine, right gauge right engine.

Now is engine 1 and engine 2 , you get damage engine one, want to feather it, which side is engine one? need to un select the good engine, select the bad engine, feather, un select the bad engine, and select the good engine again, a procedure that has nothing to do with realism and just makes things confusing.

 

We should also get a key binding to feather right engine, and a key binding to feather the left engine and in the case of Ju 52 central engine.

This is an excellent idea. I've been flying the Ju 88 a lot over the past several months, and the amount of time it takes to feather an engine is crazy.

There is nothing wrong with "engine 1" and "engine 2". That's exactly what they're called.

Nothing wrong but is not the right term in the aviation prop world, this is why there is an R and an L in the needles not a 1 and 2.

In all my professional flying it has been engine 1 and 2 or 1,2,3 and 4

 

From left to right in pilot seat

 

Stand in front of the aircraft and explain to ground crew that the left engine needs oil.....

How would you cope with 3, 4, 6 ... engines?

Not pratical, nor realistic according to RW practice, with the exception, maybe,  of GA twins, although at most airschools around here ( Europe ) students are taught 1, 2 ... to get familiar with what will meet them in their profession.

Fact : Needles in gauges  have an R and L , not 1 and 2.

This are not commercial jets.

Here's a mnemonic ("Eselsbrücke" - "donkey bridge" for those into quirky german words):

 

L comes before R - going from left to right, as well as alphabetically.

Just like 1 comes before 2.

What's this "Left" and "Right" stuff?  Isn't it Port and Starboard, since these are airships we're talking about?  P also comes before S so the above Eselsbrücke still holds true...

starboard (steering board) was on the right side of the ship to avoid getting damaged when docking
