What VR device is this?

I'm not sure about the VR headset but it looks like the pilots are using Saitek X-52 joysticks and throttles.

I don't know, but it looks pretty slick. Maybe it's something that only the Chinese military has? That's probably wrong, but I'll just throw it out there anyway.

If it's a VR device then what's with all the monitors? I can't tell if the monitor is ghosted or not but possibly 3D glasses?

Regardless, if that's the best they can do for their military training, well...

My rig doesn't look as nice but it's more functional with a bigger (and confirmed 3D) display, force feedback stick, and 5.1 surround!

It's the 55" plasma TV hanging on the wall in the exact position you would expect such a device to be based on the position of the seat.

Ah, yes of course! I’m also a happy owner of similar “VR” device, as are the majority of TV owners in the world.

Have a good weekend. Sir!

The term "VR" does not require the use of a stereoscopic HMD so, you are somewhat correct. I say somewhat because it is actually all TV owners and not just the majority.

While not an HMD, my rig is fully capable of 3D, the sound system can shake the house (the 30mm in IL-2 is really cool), and I can actually use the 3 touch screens (2 Android tablets and an old Android cell phone) that make up my instrument panel.

and what happens if you lean forward or backwards ;), the exactitude of the positioning its ruined

You are correct, however, similar to the above, the term "VR" does not require an exact representation of the way our eyes/brain visualize the world. Which is good b/c until video technology is able to display the virtual world as well as the real world, only an idiot would want the display to function the way you want it to.

i bet the point of the big screen its so the sargeant sees what the student sees through the vr googles

I suspect you are correct, however, I disagree with your definition of, "big screen" and what you describe will require the instructor to be in visual sight of a tiny monitor that has a limited field of view with no 3D sync. That, accompanied by the Saitek X-52s makes the entire setup, allegedly financed by a major military power, Mickey Mouse at best. Third rate Internet Cafe's here in the states can do better than that.

On an unrelated note, why in the world would you even attempt to guess the rank of the instructor?
