Badders46 Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 Hi all, Weird thing just happened to me in flight. I had been dogfighting for about 10-5 minutes and was RTB. Had someone on my tail and took evasive action. On doing so, the view shifted to low right in the cockpit and I couldn't move the stick or do anything at all. I ended up crashing and was dead. On dying, I couldn't press escape to finish the mission either. This has happened before but as it has happened again, I thought I would ask the question. It was on the Combat Box server and I use VR. Weird thing is, almost every first flight I have no control just after take off and have to tab+shift back to il2... it does this in DCS too... Any ideas? Thanks!
40plus Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 I suspect some other application running in Windows is Stealing focus. If it happens again, use alt-tab and try to deduce which background process is currently active. That's the one that's getting in the way.
GSP_Hund Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 (edited) This has happened to me as well, but I use track ir and the same thing occurred. With mine it shifted the view to the the right and down but I could move the stick but it was so disorienting that I crashed, and it happened on the same server CBOX. I thought it had something to do with my track . . . Edited December 31, 2019 by GSP_Hund

Glad I'm not alone!

Every thing goes in slow motion frame rate drops to about 10. I have tried pushing various combinations of control buttons to no avail, however the last time it happened I hit the escape button and that restored the game play. I will report back if it should happen again and my escape plan works again or not.
69th_Bazzer Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 (edited) Same happens to me in VR once in a while on CBox. Have to restart the game when it does. Edited December 31, 2019 by 69th_Bazzer
GSP_Hund Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 And don't know exactly if this is the same scenario but it seemed to happen around an airfield, my track ir goes down and right on occasion and only on that server and while flying German/BLue. I've flown other servers but for some reason that one does it for me, but NOT ALL THE TIME. It's just a random event, I smell red bias . . . . LOL
Jaegermeister Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 Happened to me flying offline. I had an application start in the background and it stopped Steam VR from running. When I took the goggles off, I closed the application out with the mouse and went back to game. I had crashed by then but I saw what it was that caused it. locked all controls including mouse and keyboard in game.

Hot_Rod Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 Not sure if this is the same issue, but 2 - 3 times since 4.003 came out I’ve had a similar experience - massive stuttering, no control over the aircraft (P-51) or any of it’s systems (pitch, yaw, roll or throttle) - view (Track IR) locked at about 2 o’clock level. This was in single player, QMB, Rheinland map, low altitude (about 500 meters or less) over or near a city. (Yeah, yeah, I know! What’re ya doin’ dogfightin’ in a P-51 at 500 meters?! ? I don’t know why, but the first or second time this happened I hit the right mouse button and the stuttering stopped, I had control of the aircraft systems & my Track IR was working properly (but by that time I was so low that I crashed). The last time this happened (it’s probably been a couple of weeks) I hit the right mouse button right away and everything immediately returned to normal - and I didn’t crash! I don’t know if this will work for others - or why it worked for me - but I thought I’d mention it just in case. Good luck! Rod
II./SG.1-MarkWilhelmsson Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 Use OpenComposite instead of SteamVR. When I switched I gained about 15fps and my framerates stay very steady instead of bouncing around. Also, while using SteamVR I would occasionally get big 1 or 2 second long frame freezing every few minutes. And it always happened at the worst time; like when I was about to fire on an enemy or taking evasive action. OpenComposite virtually eliminated all of my VR problems.
Badders46 Posted January 1, 2020 Author Posted January 1, 2020 Wow! I didn't expect so many others to be having a similar experience... I use open composite but it definitely sounds like something in the background so will take a look into that! Thanks all! Happy New Year!!!
Jason_Williams Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 This sounds like a simple case of loss of head tracking. TrackIR can be very finicky sometimes. Check your camera view to see where you lose tracking. If it happens again try using the mouse to re-center yourself instead of key press. Jason
Lusekofte Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 Well I used VR, but I think it was some issue with Rift software and nvidia new driver. At least I read somewhere that newest driver caused something. Also had a problem with oculus update. I did not relate my problem to GB software at the time
69th_Mobile_BBQ Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 For any of you - Is any of this happening when the sun is shining the brightest through a window of the room you're in?

In my part of the world the sun would not shine very bright this time of year. I was able to fly 2 mission yesterday before New Years guests started arriving and I had no issues.
SvAF/F16_Goblin Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 I've had the same problem in VR with Reverb. Can't use escape or any other command, when "alt+tab" with headset off and looking at the monitor it shows the lobby active on the screen but not in the headset. Having the lobby (or map/chat for that matter) up causes no other commands to be recognised. The strange thing is I need to use "alt+tab" for the window to be visible and I have no idea how it got activated at all.
