QB.Beno Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 I read something interesting in Robert Shaws fighter combat aboit the USAAF removing tracer rounds from aircraft as it increased kill rates. The reason why is that when you are behind an opponent undetected and open up your guns, they see tracers flying past and instantly will manouver to avoid, but take away the tracers and you will have an extra few moments to fire undetected increasing your chases of a quick kill. I would like to have this option, what does everyone else think? It would also allow you to have a dogfight in game and exit the dogfight. Currently a prolonged dogfight with bright tracers being spread about attracts aircraft from all directions online and after losing all your energy in a dogfight it is nearly impossible to escape alive. Just a thought anyway. I also appreciate being able to find more action thanks to being able to see tracers. Another reason apparently that tracer rounds were removed by the USAAF have more drag and were not always a good guide at long range, i doubt this is modeled though so prob irrelevant. 2
Lusekofte Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 (edited) I would love this for ground strafing. I usually restrain myself from strafing. It attract enemy that instantly know you are a target. They do not have to id you first but to me all lights are overdone in this game. It's just that the engine ends up rendering them as such. It's really a case of a 'happy medium' because when you start delving into the intricacies of such details you then will end up with a LOT of people posting about FR drops and things like that! A definite case of 'cake' and 'eating it' I would imagine. A bit like the MipMap phenomenon where an all-metal plane suddenly drops it's reflectivity when it gets a certain distance away and the first mipmap kicks in. I could go on... There have definitely been advancements in these types of areas in the recent past for sure, lights included. Just sayin'... Rap 1
