strange behavior of enemy planes

After attacking a airfield tried to land in between 15 other Tempest, this is important!

3 Bf109k4 did attack those landing planes but shot at one plane only.

What plane should you ask? I suppose you have all ready guest witch one, mine, no other???

It this happen more than once with other type of planes and other type of mission's.

Strange is it not?! :salute:

AI always group around one plane. My observation is, it is usually the Flightleader, they tend to attack first, and I think, when the gangbanging the player, which was much worse earlier, was changed, Han posted, that the AI attacks the nearest or most dangerous (I don't remember exactly anymore) aircraft, first, which usually is the flightleader, who tends to attack the enemy straight on. However in certain circumstances it can also be the player. When the player flight is in landing mode, there might be the AI logic, the player is the most dangerous pilot around, as the other ones are just turning around the airfield. All this landing logic clearly needs some overworking.

Unfortunately I'm still encountering this all too often during my career missions, which really takes out a lot of fun of SP flying. What's more, friendly planes won't really help you in such a situation, so you just take a pounding by multiple enemy planes. This can become really frustrating.

Coupled witht the AI tendency to chase you all over the map once you try to disengane from combat, I would greatly appreciate if the devs could do something about this issue.

It might also have to do with the way how you start the engagement. I never attack the enemy directly at the beginning, but turn away to gather additional altitude, while my Flightleader usually takes the head-on and therefore is the first at the enemy fighters and the most dangerous target. Our AI squamates usually fly around then or attack one enemy, but don't really try to help our Flightleader, so the same AI logic for them as in your case, not to help.

When I experience the enemy chasing me back to my airfield, usually my squamates are either killed or they were damaged an had landed at the nearest friendly airfield. But I also experience it quite often, that enemy fighters stop chasing me, to RTB or go on with their mission.

The thing i notice is this is a symptom of an AI issue that still needs to be worked on.  Basically the AI do not communicate with one another at all.  There is better teamwork in star wars x-wing alliance from 1998 (seriously i have played that recently) and from what i have seen it doesn't exist right now.  They will all go after the same target and sometimes team kill one another by shooting or crashing (rare) because they are all after the same target completely oblivious to the fact that there are 7 other planes after the same target.  You will also notice this when you try to give orders to the AI and they simply ignore you.  So in short while they have worked on the combat behaviors, they still need to work on wing men behaviors

Yep, it always looks funny, when 7 of your side are chasing one enemy, while 7 enemies are chasing you or your flightleader.

Same here. I also never attack straight into the enemy flight. The only difference seems to be that I always fly as the flight leader. Maybe that is my "fault".

This might very well be.

Well, I tried another mission as a wingman and sure enough, I didn't get molested by enemy fighers (I was flying on an interception mission) - that is until my return to base. Guess I should have turned back more early, as I suddenly found myself with about half the enemy air fleet right at my back, although we were deep inside friendly territory. Ah well, that was a lot of "fun" indeed.
