cobbman11 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Showing no mercy, I chased a damaged Pe-2 down to the deck in my 109. The Pe-2 struck the ground, exploding on impact. I flew right through the fiery plume and came out trailing smoke. I don't believe I was close enough to catch any splash from the explosion itself. Can anyone confirm or debunk engine damage due to inhaling smoke or fire?
FuriousMeow Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 You probably damaged the engine over speeding it.
cobbman11 Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 That was my initial thought but the throttle had been just above idle for almost a minute and I wasn't in a dive.
Schmittfeuer Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Can't say I had the exact same thing happen to me, but when attacking a train with the Stuka I somehow managed to loose an elevator and the rudder as well as one of the landing legs flying through the fireball. But I presume that was due to the explosion rather than just the fire.
Anw.StG2_Tyke Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I encountered a similar case. I chased down a Pe-2 which started to burn. I was in the flamed area and was going into a zoom climb. I saw my plane burning... so I must have caught fire by flying behind a burning plane...
Georgio Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I've been damaged flying through debris, so assuming the DM is setup that fire is bad, then there's no reason why it wouldn't affect your plane. Reminds me of the guncam footage on youtube with fighters chasing down v1's and losing most of their paint but little else in the resulting explosion.
