Rudder/takeoff problem

Recommended Posts

Posted

I just started a takeoff with the IL-2. But somehow the rudder has no chance of compensating for the turning of the propellar.

It just veers off to the right. I tried locking the back wheel, giving it little throttle in the start, everything!
Am I doing something wrong, or is there a bug?

My joystick seems to register max and min values in controls just fine.

The rudder goes to one side when I turn, but still it turns to the right constantly.

Hope someone can help a rookie taking off:)

You need to set the RPM fully forward, so the plane will automatically get fine prop pitch.

It'll go a lot easier after that.

Don't know exactly about the IL-2 but on some WWII planes (DCS P-51), pull the stick back a bit when you start the roll to hold the tail on the ground and when you get some speed going to have air moving over the tail, let it go and push forward to bring the tail up.

RPM can be adjusted seperate from the engine Throttle? I'll check into that on my controls. Haven't done anything to my prop pitch.

Edit: I saw a video now on prop pitch at takeoff. I think that must be it. Should it always be at minimum during takeoff?

That might be it. Only thing is that when i look behind at the rudder, it doesn't go to one side when the plane veers off to the right. I centers when I release the rudder, and reacts fine when I push it left.

Agreed that you need to set your RPM control full forward so you get maximum thrust on takeoff. You might want to double check that your rudder is moving in-game too.

I made a video that might help you as well when you get around to landing ;)

Great tutorial, and great tips:) Thanks guys! I managed to take off and land before I saw the video. Even tried some expert dogfighting.

I must admit I am struggeling alot to keep track of all, using a keyboard and no headtracker. Been using my hatswitch for views.

Should probably go in a post for itself but...

Any tips for dogfights? WEP/flaps/trim and so on?

Again, thank you for all the helpful advice:)
