The case for a late war P-47

When dwindling about the new Razorback-model announced for Normandy (and trying to figure out, which version to hope for), I came across the thought of why not incorporating a late war P-47 with a couple of mods, so several options could be provided. With Normandy, we'll probably see a Block-range between D-10 and D-23, which gives us an airplane with water-injection, the possibility of adding bomb-shackles (D-15 upward) and taking fuel on the outboard racks (which some sources attribute to a -2x Block, resulting from a plumbed wing).

But why not add another late-war version, moddable akin the Fw 190A-8?

The airplane could be based on the D-30 airframe (that means dive-flaps are available). It could run on 150 octane fuel as standard. By adding a dorsal fin and HVAR-ZLLs one could turn it into a D-40.

By keeping the look of the D-30 and giving it a different engine and turbo (and taking away two guns), one could depict the P-47M-1. The latter was based on the D-27 airframe, but it had dive-flaps, too. The M would come with automated engine-controls, though.

I think a late war P-47 with that kind of moddability would certainly be attractive.

Would be nice just to have 150 fuel for the D-28 and the BoN Razorback at the very least, both used it and it'd be a good addition for Bodenplatte and post invasion Normandy.

P-47M would be sweet but it wouldn't have automatic engine controls, as far as I'm aware only the late N blocks had automated controls.

Personally I hope to see and earlier bubbletop like the D-25 or D-27. The D-27 was basically identical to the D-28, it had a better prop (Hamilton) and was the fastest of the D blocks except for other D blocks that used the Hamilton (D-22 and D-25)

For a late war P-47 that actually saw widespread use I'd say the D-30 is the best option though I'd like a P-47M. Also, most P-47Ds could carry HVARS but only 4 of them.

P-47N would be sweet as well, it was the most advanced P-47 and had alot of interesting features (tail radar, auto engine controls, autopilot, etc) It also was very fast and had very long range.

Jason mentioned 1 month ago that we likely will get the D-22.
