sierrabob Posted December 25, 2019 Posted December 25, 2019 I fly in VR and I have a home built buttkicker sound system on my chair which allows me to feel sounds. I can't feel the landing or runway as I'm rolling on it. I watched a video of a spitfire land and when it touched down there was a distinct sound. He bounced the landing and each time there was a sound. Is there a setting or mod for this? Other programs I have, have this feature and it really helps with landings and the immersion effect. Thanks for any help.
SCG_motoadve Posted December 25, 2019 Posted December 25, 2019 You can adjust the settings are in the buttkicker hardware itself, make it more sensitive.
migmadmarine Posted December 25, 2019 Posted December 25, 2019 I do agree some of the runways should be noisier, Marston Mats especially.
sierrabob Posted December 25, 2019 Author Posted December 25, 2019 I have a home made buttkicker and I do get feedback in other flying games, on landing and on the runway, just not in IL-2

Thanks for any help. I have the same set up. VR and home made seat shaker. I can definately feel the runway and landing. It comes down to how you tune your sound card, amplifier and frequency cut offs for the channel that is driving your shaker. There's no specifics to it as everyone's custom system is different. I'm using the heavily modified husk of a 6" woofer paired up with a car audio amplifier powered by a PC power supply..... Works great but took a butt load of tuning to optimize. Merry Christmas

sierrabob Posted December 26, 2019 Author Posted December 26, 2019 Thanks to all for the input. I downloaded the recommended buttkicker software and I am adjusting things. Still seems like I've got a ways to go to really feel the runway. I'm starting to feel the runway on touchdown. Spartan85 I wish I was that good! I've had some pretty bouncy landings! ?
19//Moach Posted December 26, 2019 Posted December 26, 2019 I have a BK too on my main home rig, and I recall being able to feel landings easily enough by the sudden onset of a deeper thrumming vibration. It isn't too loud, and I suppose if you land with the canopy open, you'd barely be able to notice it. Some planes are louder inside than others, also. Depending on the RPM you come in for touchdown, it is indeed possible that you'd miss the sometimes subtle change in vibration that comes from wheels on the ground. Sound mods could help with that. Dunno, I haven't had a good chance/reason to try it yet.
Gretsch_Man Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 I also agree that it's often quite difficult after touch down to "feel" (or in my case to "hear", as I don't have any butt-kicker device) the runway you're rolling down. Ashamed to say that more than once after initial touch down, while thinking I'm already firmly on the ground, did I pull back on the stick (to avoid ground looping) only to find myself back in the air - stalled the plane and KABOOM!
danielprates Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 Wait, you guys use buttkickers? What a wonderful time to be alive!
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 The Games Default Audio is very Flat (Like a flat equalizer scale) Turn on windows EQ in sound and adjust so the base channels are higher 20-100hz channels for buttkicker.
sierrabob Posted December 27, 2019 Author Posted December 27, 2019 What is EQ in windows sound? I don't see it. I have windows 10 home. I'm using the voicemeeter which is the buttkickers recommended sound software. but I'm struggling to get things set up right.
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 (edited) sorry forgot to post this.. im on Windows 7 set to look like Classic 2000 (cose perf) All sound card and system have different options some done have EQ. There is lots of 3rd party software out there for Graphic Equalizers and stuff like Bass Enhancement Edited December 28, 2019 by =TBAS=Sschatten14
sierrabob Posted December 29, 2019 Author Posted December 29, 2019 Thanks I just found the equalizer for voicemeeter. In windows 10 I couldn't find one for anything else. The voicemeeter equalizer has a lot of sliders and I started with as close to the settings you showed. It helped a lot! The landing and runway sounds are so faint it's hard to isolate them. But it is working better. Thanks again for the help! 1
