Mismatching of the Alpha and the skin?

impossible to have letters numbers dead center ,  what is the solution when this happens ?

Not knowing how you go about skinning its really hard to give you advice.

However, I would bring the skin into your alpha template, make it it's own layer and use it as a guide to line up your lettering there.

Otherwise you can make your lettering layer full size (right click on layers in GIMP and click "layer to image size", then copy it to your alpha template, then edit it there.

bringing in the letters and numbers into the new  alpha , positioning  and blotting them  is what is causing the problem , its creating a double layer . I resolved the issue yesterday by printing directly into the alpha the letters and numbers in a chosen color such as OD to act as a blot and position as closely as possible to the files letters and numbers position . this worked perfectly .The idea came because the default templates of this sim come with the blotted areas for the insignias and DD markings .The rest of the blotted areas i add never have this issue i recently faced with letters and numbers by copy and pasting into alpha and blotting . Is a bit confusing because if you note the separate  alpha supplied has all the surface blotted with OD which you uncheck if you wish to use BM and in most cases i have not had this issue until 2 days ago . So in conclusion i will use the method i mentioned above from now on when applying the codes to BM surfaces .

Just noticed this post so my comments may be redundant, however my method for lettering, in fact every aspect of the unique layers of a skin, be they lettering, art, victory symbols etc, is to:

1/ copy the layer from the colour psd "skin"

2/ in GIMP make a layer for the copied layer items on the Alpha template.

3/ I then use GIMPs "Paste in place" tool option,

4/ then Anchor that layer

5/ If the new copied items are in colour (eg nose art) I then totally Desaturate it. (If they are already black, like lettering, I skip to the next step).

6/ Then reduce the items brightness & contrast to zero. (The selected items will go a very light grey).

7/ I then use the "colours" tool "Curves" to adjust the lightness or darkness of the grey get the desired reflective result.

8/ Save/export in the usual way.

Works for me.
