airacobrafan Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 (edited) On the new promotional image for tank crew on the IL-2 website, both the T-34 and the Panzer IV have extra equipment not featured in the game at the moment: https://il2sturmovik.com/s/img/main_slides/tc_early_access_en.38bdcabe053a.jpg The Panzer IV has got an MG34 AA machine gun mounted on the commander's cupola which should be easy to add to Tank Crew for all (German) tanks. The self-propelled guns/ tank destroyers also need them and at least the SU-152 could be equipped with the DshK according to the sources one can find. The second piece of equipment is the commander's cupola for the T-34. There is an AI controlled T-34 M1943 with the cuploa which also appears in some missions in the Breaking Point campaign. This would be a good modification for the playable T-34, especially if you advertise with this feature. In general, it would be nice to have some more modifications and skin options in the final game it, is rather mediocre at the moment compared to the planes. There are almost no multi-coloured camouflage skins for Allied vehicles available by default for example. Edited December 20, 2019 by airacobrafan
Buggeredsteel823 Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 From what I know Russian tanks did come anything different than green / white wash the Germans tanks how ever had spots of red brown or lines over dark yellow / white wash these cammos are from around the Battle of Kursk.
dixieflyer Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 While one can find camouflaged RKKA tanks from time to time, I have never found it to be the norm, or what's common. Just regular ol' 4B0 green with various slogans, etc. from time to time.
airacobrafan Posted December 21, 2019 Author Posted December 21, 2019 (edited) Plenty of options to choose from for the Red Army: https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/soviet/soviet_T34-76.php https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/soviet/soviet_SU-152.php https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/soviet/soviet_KV-1.php https://www.coh2.org/topic/27537/all-factions-vehicle-skins-database https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/soviet/soviet_SU-122.php Edited December 22, 2019 by airacobrafan
airacobrafan Posted December 24, 2019 Author Posted December 24, 2019 Another possible modification to even the odds would be the 57mm gun as an option for the T-34: https://wiki.warthunder.com/T-34-57_(1943) https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/soviet/t34exterminator Yes, it was a prototype in 1943, but we have other, very rare customization options for some planes too... Same goes for a 85mm gun for the KV-1s... 1

Rather play warthunder then to be honest where those 57mm T-34s are OP like hell and unrealistic. 9 hours ago, airacobrafan said: Same goes for a 85mm gun for the KV-1s... Well that version became called: Josef stalin 1. And it wasnt in production for Kursk 1943, saw combat later.

SCG_judgedeath3 Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Seems 10 prototype tanks saw combat in late 41 but thats it, they did do some research if it was worth producing them again in mid 43 but they opted instead for the T-34-85 for mass production.
airacobrafan Posted December 26, 2019 Author Posted December 26, 2019 (edited) I am aware of these prototype/operational use issues, but they also apply to some planes already in the sim. Still, I understand the concerns you pointed out nicely. I don't know about the T-34-57 or KV-85 in War Thunder, it would just be one possible option which you could also do less OP here. As I said in the first post, I just wanted to point out that the game could use some more modifications / skin options that can be done quite easily and we can discuss prototypes all day. Agree, like you suggested with camoflages that would be nice, also more choices for decals and slogans would be good to have. Option to chose number for the tank like german tanks have all from 01 to 99 to chose from. Something I would like to be able to chose is machine gun for the commander on the roof, skirts, extra track links on the front or sides, or on the turret etc. And bushes and camoflage. 2
manintan2016 Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 (edited) I agree, to a point. German tanks were regularly issued an MG-34 for AA work that could be dismounted and carried in the turret. In practice, this was more effective for morale than against aircraft, as it was only 7.92mm and did little damage, if any. In game, it might be fun, but if realistic, would do little other than be a nice cosmetic. And, the only tanks in the game that MIGHT have one would be the Pz 3 or 4. Tigers, Panthers, and the Elephant/Ferdinand did not carry them at the time of Kursk. German self-propelled guns/ tank destroyers, other than the Hetzer, almost never had a externally mounted machine gun. Just look at any period photos. Russian SP/TD rarely carried them, other than the SU- 152, but it seems were at least carried more often than on German SP/TD's. Externally mounted spare tracks is a really nice idea, because it would adversely affect the armor penetration of incoming projectiles. Germans mounted them both as spares and as extra armor, and historically, it was pretty common. Not so much for the Russians, most of their armor did not have track link mounting brackets, and if they did, only a few extra links were carried. Personalizing tanks with numbers or slogans is a great idea, was historical, and can be done. There was a program in the original IL-2 game that allowed this, as a mod, but damn if I remember the program name. Edited December 27, 2019 by manintan2016
