Guys, I hate for break in here but I am back after 6 years and frustrated to find on Steam a listing of forum, or seach for them to get to IL-2 Sturmovik Form from where I get these missives by sub.

I am trying to connect to a community that is engaged in the IL-2 efforts to read and learn. Please...

I don't get it Ranger... do you possess "IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover BLITZ"? Because you will need it if you want to join the IL-2 community you heard about on Steam. Are you even aware that there are three different generations in the IL-2 series of games? We are on the forum for the second generation ("IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover", also known as the "Dover series"). In a nutshell:

1st generation as of 2001: "IL-2 Sturmovik", nowadays better known under the name "IL-2: 1946".

2nd generation as of 2011: "IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover", nowadays upgraded up the BLITZ version, also known as the "Dover series".

3rd generation as of 2013: "IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles", also known as the "Great Battles series".

thanks for prompt reply, I do have CLOD-B and since my last found I could sign in here through Steam. Likewise, I have access to all the Forums. My Account and Bio have been updated.

I will be buying Kuban, as it has VR support and to reaquait with the A-20. Then I will look for a squad.

Thanks for the updated naming...Ranger

Oops, Bodenplatte is the only VR supported in the series I can see. Is that true? That will cause some thought.

Hi Ranger,

To clearly know if whether or not an "IL-2" game is VR supported, please go to the official site ( https://il2sturmovik.com/ ) and click on "store". On the right hand side of the "store" page, two rectangles are there, one is red the other is blue.

1) All games in the red rectangle belong to the "Great Battles" series. All of them in this series are VR supported and standalone games. Standalone games... this means that you can purchase whatever game in the red list, it will work as a free independent game, not needing any other game in the list. All games in this series deal with WWII aviation except two of them : in "Tank Crew" you'll lead a WWII tank into battle. In "Flying Circus Vol.1" you'll fly WWI aircraft (1914-1918).

2) All games in the blue rectangle belong to the "Dover" series. They are not yet VR supported but sooner or later they will be, most likely next year before the end of 2021. In addition, it is a series of games based on a basic core engine. The so mentioned basic core engine is the first game in the list, BLITZ. It is a standalone, obviously, and you already possesses it. You were right when buying BLITZ, trust me, it is a fantastic simulator, very accurate, very realistic. It is set during the Battle of Britain (Summer of 1940). Feel free to purchase the add-on "Desert Wings - Tobruk", set in North Africa in the area of Libya and Egypt where in 1941-1942 the British RAF (based in Egypt, East of the map) was facing Italian aviation (based in Italian Libya, West of the map). German Luftwaffe joined the Italians and fought for the axis forces.

Just hope the above was clear enough to you.

Kintaro.

Your time to clarify is appreciated. Key was the coloring of the product listings as, I did not know this. This and the last posting sends me on the way with Kuban in VR with the Rift S. Moreover, I am comfortable to spend here now. VR was a must transition from Track IR.

Thank you, Ranger.

You're welcome, dude.

On tuesday I purchased / installed Desert Wings.

As a temporary solution until VR is implemented I use my Rift-S with VorpX and tracking with Opentrack.

Real VR is of course not possible (no stereoscopic vision). But with the headset I have the impression to be in the cockpit.

-other planes, vehicles are looking well

-due to lack of stereoscopic vision the cockpit elements and the landscape are let me say acceptable.

-after a mission is finished (escape key pressed) you have to pull off the headset, the mouse icon is invisible now and without seeing the mouse you have to save the mission results (in a campaign) and quit the simulation.

-you can use the headset only for flying a mission, for all other tasks e g. settings, mission builder I use the monitor.

-while flying it is  possible to operate the interactive cockpit switches, levers.

-I recommend this procedure only those who already have Desert Wings and are already familar with VorpX, because I can not guarantee that it works on other computers.

Best Regards

The above is similar to how I use VorpX to fly Star Citizen in VR. For Star Citizen it provides VR that is much less comfortable than the VR we enjoy in Great Battles, but doable, I imagine similar to what kraut1 one describes with Tobruk.  It's good to know this is an option for a game I bought but was planning to wait until VR is supported before I fly it.

Just one precision: your pseudo VR in Tobruk... should work with BLITZ on the Channel map all the same... nope?

Yes, before I decided to buy desert wings I worked out this with Blitz and flew some of quick missions on the Channel Map.

+1 for the implementation of VR

+2, I can't go back even with my meager Rift S. Already own Blitz and Tobruk though (both good).

Hey chaps, not to be rude, but VR development in this game will not go faster because you add your +3s, +4s, +5s or whatever pluses you add to a discussion thread on the forum...

Leave it with the devs, VR in the Dover series will be ready when it will be ready, not before.

Blitz is already at the pinnacle of CFS's. Why gild the lily? Keep it pure! Bring on the FW190's.

Hi,

For Information:

I have new simplified settings released, tracking only with VorpX, smoother, better head movement / visibility backwards.

Best regards

No it won't. It's just a way the  community can show support and anticipation. Telling people to not do that doesn't help either.   Considering many die hard CLoD fliers think VR is a waste of time "because only 1% of gamers on steam even have VR" is common rhetoric around here, I don't see any issue with people being excited for VR to come to Tobruk / CloD.

I think War Thunder was providing Oculus Rift support in Spring of 2016. TFS has yet to void the VR "sales success" contingency status of the August 14, 2020 development roadmap. The absence of VR support is going to generate increasing heat the longer this ambiguity persists. It is not that no one was aware that lack of VR support would be an issue. The piecemeal DW-T rollout was an explicit strategy. The quick release of the MSFS2020 VR update is a definite "uh-oh" development. The one new feature that could have been touted at rollout would have been trueSKY, yet fully six months post release we have yet to see video demo of the "alpha" stage of trueSKY implementation. Welcoming of discussion is the only way forward.

Absolutely this.

It's quite simple: If Tobruk had VR support I would buy it.

At this point it looks like market forces are dictating implementation of VR for Blitz simply as a survival mechanism. A side benefit would likely be upgrades to the UI  needed to support VR. A caveat is that launcher crashes, annoying in 2D, would be intolerable in the VR environment.

Just to add to this, CLoD is a diamond: rough on the edges, but the actual game sans a tolerable amount of bugs is actually very good. What it is missing is the "sex sells" aspect: the UI and menus are so dated and this turns people off, VR is the future and CLoD still doesn't have it in 2021 when even laptop users like myself can run it, the campaign system is antiquated as well, etc. The underlying game engine is very good however (much more capable than Great Battles in terms of recreating large air battles). The damage models are exquisitely detailed as are the projectiles. I really wish CLoD could have been fixed sooner and not abandoned by 1C because in many ways it is still more "next-gen" than GB. The main thing GB does better are flight models, graphics, and ground crash physics IMO. The smoke and explosion effects (as well as the scale of battles in CLoD/Tobruk) makes "Great Battles" feel more like IL-2: Small Skirmishes.

I own Tobruk but haven't played it since I got a VR headset. It is quite good I must say though. Team Fusion is good at what they do...but they need more manpower and resources. They really need to convince what's left of the 1946 modding community to join them...

UI and menus ... who cares !!!!!?

It's almost here VR !!!!!!! YES !!!!!

btw, do you know if CLoD has UDP telemetry ? I'm working on bHaptcis support for MSFS, and it would be nice to have it here too.

Feeling your belly vibrate when there are many Gs is awesome, not only funny but very informative !!!!

Hopefully major news on Visual Update status will be planned in celebration of the third anniversary of Blitz 5.0/DW-T's release.?

The need for compromise:

Given their more than four year effort, the responsible course of action is for TFS to provide a date certain for making their "free" Visual Update/VR package available to all customers. In event of TFS' failure to deliver, the beta version should become an "as is" Steam option, no strings attached. My guess is that the reputational damage accruing from doggedly refusing unrestricted access now outweighs any negatives incurred from a suboptimal public beta and might well be unrecoverable. Making a flawed beta available on Steam at least demonstrates that TFS keeps its' word.

I'd be interested in: join the VR beta any time you want but I have no idea how to prove "proof of ownership of a VR headset" I only have 3... lolz

Id give it a couple of weeks and send another. I dunno if TFS are actively looking for VR testers still or if it goes in waves.
