il2crashesnfails Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 Does anyone disagree with this? The only other option is to pitch hard up to get altitude and bail. However, if you are in a bomber with multiple crew this still doesn't give enough time for everyone to get out. Also a question I have is when on fire should you turn the engine off? 5
=FEW=ayamoth89 Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 You should turn the engine off because during the "engine stop automatic procedure" in game, the pilots cuts the fuel injection too. Also you should side slip the plane to move the fire away from the cockipt area, nose down, gain some speed. In the 262 it actually stops the fire... 1
Raptorattacker Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 Alternatively you could stop flying Bombers?!! Oh yeah, a quick tip. When you use the F11 key for the camera, especially when you're on the ground', try hitting R Shift+F8 and it'll do the tracking FOR you. It's a lot smoother. 1

In the 262 it actually stops the fire... never thought about side slipping to direct the fire. I havent had much luck getting the fire out in bombers. Every now and then I was able in a fighter when you pitch nose down and enter a fast dive. Do you know if any of these planes had a fire suppression system?
=FEW=ayamoth89 Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Some planes surely featured an emergency fire suppression system, usually bombers and/or big planes. To be honest I never managed to stop an engine fire in Il-2 pitching the nose down, even reaching 550-600 kph. I managed to stop it every time on the 262 following the correct procedure...

Thanks ill use that next time always forget stuff like that. Also do you happen to know how to view other aircraft in your formation in replay? 7 hours ago, =FEW=ayamoth89 said: Some planes surely featured an emergency fire suppression system, usually bombers and/or big planes. Yeah would be cool to have them in the game for sure. Can't comment on the 262 haven't got that plane as yet!
