Motherbrain Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Since we have the U-2 for the Russians and the Ju52/3 for the Germans, how interested would you be in maybe some more non-combat aircraft for Il-2 as collector planes? Some of them would be fairly simple to do since they would mostly be fairly simple planes. And in the case of the C-47 (and with a Russian skin a cosplay Li-2), we are already getting it in the Battle of Normandy expansion. Here are some examples. Westland Lysander Aeronca L-3/4 "Grasshopper" Fieseler Fi-156 Storch Focke-Wulf Fw-189 "Uhu" Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XIX PR Lockheed P-38X "Droop Snoot" 1
AndyJWest Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 I don't think a droop-snoot P-38 counts as non-combat, given that its purpose was to assist the accurate dropping of nasty stuff on the enemy. As for the rest, yeah, why not? Probably not guaranteed best sellers, like some of the regular suggestions for collector planes, but variety is good, and we can dream about them anyway. 1

Yah the photo Spitfire and Lightning aren't probably practical since that's a lot of development effort for rather obscure versions of the planes with little use outside of being used in missions. But the Grasshopper I'd imagine is easily possible since its basically the military version of the Piper Cub and there is practically nothing to it. Edited December 12, 2019 by Motherbrain
AndyJWest Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Grasshoppers are confusing - three different (but similar-looking) aircraft, all with the same name. The L-2 was a Taylorcraft design, the L-3 was based on the Aeronca Chief, while the L-4 was based on the Piper Cub. At a guess, I'd think that the L-4 would be easiest to model, since there are still lots of Cubs around. This video was recorded at Oshkosh in 2012. Apparently over 170 turned up. ?
RedKestrel Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Not sure I would be able to buy them as I have to kind of husband my spending money these days, but I would welcome some aircraft of different roles, as long as there were game mechanics for them.
=27=Davesteu Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 (edited) They should model the U-2's bombsight before selling anything new. After all, it's supposed to be a light night bomber. Right now it's a hardly implemented letdown. Corrected official skins and AO-25 bombs would be appreciated. 1 hour ago, Motherbrain said: Lightning [Droop Snoot] aren't probably practical since that's a lot of effort for rather obscure versions of the planes with little user outside of being used in missions They should have done a P-38J-15 or -20 instead of the rare J-25; it would have been usable throughout the BoN & BoBP timeframes and they could have added a Droop Snoot modification. Hardly anyone is making use of the J-25's boosted ailerons and dive flaps (not dive brakes!) - as expected. There still is no playable Western Allied level bomber - a Droop Snoot would have been the cheapest (and a unique) way to change this. Chance missed. Edited December 12, 2019 by =27=Davesteu 1
6./ZG26_Loke Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 Would be great to fly night missions in the Lysander. Fly into occupied Europe, find the marked by flashlight grassfield, then land to pick up agents. ? 1
Missionbug Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 They cannot really be classed as non combat as such, most were armed with guns and bombs, all certainly would bring many needed and varied roles into the sim and I would buy them, I actually made the Lysander for IL-2 1946 so it is top of my wish list as is Fw-189, but yes all of them The difficulty is getting Jason to actually invest in the more obscure, to him and all those fighter jockeys at least, and take a risk with these types, reading between the lines I am not sure the experiment with third party companies was as successful as was hoped so it might be once bitten twice shy now. Anyway, do not hold your breath, we still need the career fleshing out for the Ju-52 and U-2, how long have we had them now? Roles you would think could/should be added such as recon and arty spotting for the U-2 are something else badly needed as are medevac for it and the Ju-52, even with the aircraft models made elsewhere there remains work to be done for the team integrating them properly. Anyway, live in hope, we never know what is around the next corner. Wishing you all the very best, Pete.
Barnacles Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 If you convince all your friends to buy the U2 and ju52 it'll increase the chance of something like a storch coming out.
=gRiJ=Roman- Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 After reading Jason's comments in the Briefing room, I see that he has finally reached the same conclusion as me in an old post I wrote long time ago. At that time I suggested that the Collector's planes should be sold together with a mini-campaign and/or a mini map too. To be honest, the first price for the U2 was very high and without some context to use it, what was the point? It was just unattractive and plain for the most of us. It seems that Jason now wants to add some missions, a female pilot model and recreate the Night Witches. Well, it's never too late and that is the correct way to increase the sale of those collector's Planes. This will make it incredibly attractive, IMHO. My two cents By the way, why not to make a Zeke AM6 as a collector's plane, so we can really see a first step towards the Pacific? I would buy it on the spot! 1
