Spitfire IX clipped wings and their availability

Speaking here about the Spitfire IXs part of the 2nd TAF: is there a date in the timeline of career mode when the clipped wings mod should be enabled by default, and if so, what is the evidence for that?

(I'm working to help get the loadouts and mods for career mode updated to where they need to be).

By default? Dont see the point, lots of squadrons had a mix of both til the wars end.

Hey Luke,

There was a thread about this. Consensus seems to be that the clipped wing version was more or less standard by early 1945.

Interesting stuff there. So, if I'm reading things correctly, would something like this look right?

  • Clipped wings available but not the default setup until January 1945
  • From January 1945, clipped wings become the default setup.

Of course, in both cases, the player can add / remove the clipped wings as he sees fit.

Then there is the topic of the +25lbs boost. Is February 1945 the generally-agreed "start date" for when this fuel starting being used by 2nd TAF Spitfires? I was thinking it was early January, but I might be wrong on that.

yes, looks right to me.

150 octane was gradually introduced, but yes feb.1, 1945 would a good date to have it as the default setting.

Good stuff, thanks! I will set it up like this, then:

  • Clipped wings: available for all dates; becomes default setup early January 1945
  • +25 lbs boost: becomes available and the default setup on 1 February 1945
