Climbing in the 109

So how in the flipping hell are you supposed to do it?  I climb straight up, IL-2 outclimbs me, I corkscrew, IL-2 and even a PE-2 still outclimbs me.  Is this plane actually good at climbing or is it an excuse LAGG pilots use to cover their mistakes.

if you go pure vertical it really depends on the energy of each A/C - factoring in that if you go straight up, they can cut across the corner a little (which gives them an edge) and also they don't need to catch you - their shells do.

 

The 109 is great in long sustained climbs so in a straightish line or by going up in a spiral climb.

It's hard to execute streight zoom climbs.You need to make a perfect assessment of the other planes energy level.

Try a  climbing turn.

You are probably new to virtual air combat.Right ?

 

Here are 2 exmples:

 

1.First fight.Me(109) and a lagg merge with equal energy .I climb , the lagg tries to folow but loses energy fast.

 

2.Min 1.34 climbing turn vs an IL2 that i failed to see closing up to me.

Conserve your E. Straight vertical defensive maneuvers died in SWOTL in 1992.

 

You can outrun and out-climb anything in the game with the Friedrich. The only caveat to this is if you start at a significant E deficit to begin with.

 

Shallow out your climb slightly and let the other guy bleed off his energy while trying to match you. Turn back into him after he turns away. Stop PULLING SO HARD

As the others said you need good SA, some times you might need to dive to extend then climb.Good climb would be ATA 1.31 at 250kph.I fly lagg

mostly online one of the biggest mistakes i see is 109's go straight up, by guys that don't really understand what their doing.Then theirs the experten

that can do it but thats for the more advanced you get flying 109.

The BF109-f4 IS for the moment the best figther  of the game with the exception of the Yak-1 in a sustaned turn where the Yak-1 could win!
