I've done 5 maps on the RoF editor recently.

Total of x2 crashes, so maybe it is a 64bit / 4k type thing.

I have completely deleted IL2, and made a new installation from scratch. No more crashes so far with the Editor even working on my very heavily loaded Missions.

Let's see when will the first crash happen.

I didn't get any crashes tonight in the latest build, so perhaps not related to your re-install...tough to say for sure.

On the other hand I know better than to get too hopeful.

I was having multiple crashes and a couple of days ago I was using the "Viewer" tool to look at some skins and my PC crashed again. I deleted the game & did a full re-install. No problems so far. I can also see the airfield at Lapino using the Summer Map now.!!

Still no crashes at all. My reinstall was radical. I wiped out everything clean. So now I run stock version 4.004 pristine, no mods, no custom skins, no tweaks, and ? no crashes.

I rebuilt my computer with a new hard drive, ram and board. Clean install of everything. As long as I close all groups before exiting the editor, I have not had any crashes since then.

I have no crashes anymore with groups closed or open. The ME behaves really well. I am in 4K and did not have one crash zooming in out moving the map etc.

Even with everything displayed and that's hundreds of icons and hundreds of links. Amazing. I start to do less frequent saves....  ATTENTION ! DANGER!  ?

One thing though I always open the editor in default mode and then load the mission. I do not switch mission in the opened editor. I close the editor open it again and load a new mission. The limitation here is that you cannot copy objects from one mission and paste them in a new mission. It is there that you can mess up the group tree. You have to make groups that you save and then load in the other mission. But this is not often that you need that.

For me it still crashes if I leave groups open, save and open another mission. I do not close the ME completely before opening another mission, because if all groups are closed there is no problem. Saves time.

I have never had an issue with pasting copied objects or groups even after an ME crash or closing the ME and reopening another mission. Right click, paste, viola...

I never tried a copy paste between a closing and reopening of the ME. I will check if that works.

Yes - I do it all the time.

I have now long periods of work,  before a crash happens. I had multiple evenings without any crash. It still happens but very seldom now, and it happens when zooming/panning the very loaded Kuban map (4K display) of my missions.

I found that if I open my Kuban Map mission and I immediately start panning and zooming then the likelihood of a crash is higher. As I said I have hundreds of objects on this map in addition of all those that come with the game to populate the default map.

When you open the map on a large monitor (43") in 4K you can see a lot of details. And you can see that the system takes time (4-6 seconds) to display all the objects on the map. And my machine is no small player, it is a top performance rig. So for those with less powerful machines heavy missions would even take more time to load. The very high likelihood of a crash is when you pan and zoom at the same time as the editor is still loading the map.

Still the full clean reinstall did a big difference.

Does anyone have any experience of this ?

It's always crashed every so often, but it's going down in under 1 minute every time today, impossible to get anything done.

For what it's worth, about 80% of crashes seem to happen when I'm right click / dragging the map.

Is there perhaps a file I could delete that might clear out the cobwebs ?

Cheers, S!

I have had no real issues with the ME since i started using it about 5 months ago. ..... that until yesterday.

Dragging the map, zooming not fluid as it used to be, sometimes a sticky mouse. And today the ME runs again without problems .... (4.004)

Must be a windows or GPU settings issue, i use 10 pro, and an expensive NVDIA graphics card.

I keep closing the ME and booting the game for testing regularly though. On re load it addresses the last used mission file, not the default.

Icky's tip on reinstalling also could be a problem solver. Next time i will try that. But 4.005 seems to be around the corner.

As he said i use no tweaks or game mods, only loaded a bucket of skins for planes. No 3rd party texture turnings; had problems with that in 4.003. .

I have tested a feature that guaranties an editor crash. If you have two or more linked entity icons of the same type on top of each other, even if the names are different, and then you click an object or target link on top of them , bang  crash. I have this with Effect type icons. If I separate them apart so that when clicking on them there is no ambiguity then all is fine. It means that the editor cannot separate which icon, but instead of just telling us that we have to specify which icon we want to link he just crashes. A nice way to have a user friendly interaction and  a constructive talk with us ?
