The Tempest has the bicycle brake on the stick. You have only that one lever. No foot brakes. When you pull this brake pushing down left or right rudder will give you differentail braking in the direction you are steering.

how do you access that lever ?

it is the same function you use on russian planes. Same lever.

i dont use any lever on the russian planes they all work fine . i use the differential as brake on some planes wether left or right and no problems .  you mention lever , what key activates this lever and where is it ? i looked for a IL2  tempest manual on google but there is none . i repeat the plane will turn right with brake on the right wheel and the pins in the brake gauge react . But when i want to do the same left nothing happens , i can only go straight or stop with brake , if i use the rudder it will eventually turn left after 50 mt . below is an image which shows the lever reacting right and the needles as well but the same does'nt happen on the opposite side .

ok i got it now . push the left pedal right down as if directing the rudder and brake with the right pedal ,  The Spit 9 which has the same braking system turns with the differential braking method like the Russian aircraft  .

Here you go;

Pilot Notes for Tempest.zip

The keybinding for that lever is just Wheel brakes and while using that keybind the amount of Plane Control: Yaw you give determines the amount of right or left brake used. Indeed its the same system that the Spitfire V, Spitfire IX and also the Hurricane (once that arrives ought to) use. If that does not work then theres something funky going on with your game as the Tempest works fine and just like both Spitfires for me..

I'm using Joystick and Keyboard and have yet been able to take off or land the Tempest without wildly spinning out.  Been at it for some time and still can't get it.

I don't understand the instructions above very well.  It almost seems you're telling me to put the Right Brakes on, while applying Left Rudder.

I have separate key mapping for Wheel Breaks, and for Left and Right Wheel Breaks.  Which one should I be pressing for what direction,

and my Yaw (rudder) ?    So confused..   Have to resort to Autopilot just to get off the ground .

The Tempest doesn't have brakes on the rudder pedals. As with other British (and most Russian) aircraft modelled in IL-2 GB, it has a brake lever on the control column. You need to map that to a button or axis. Press it with the rudder neutral, and it applies the brakes to both wheels equally. Turn the rudder, and the brakes get applied in proportion: e.g. hard left and it will brake on the left wheel only.

Ok.. never mind.   It IS the "Wheel Brake" key mapping.   I was just having a stupid moment.

It's clunky, but it works.  Thanks.
