New spotting system - especially in winter.

I don't know why, but with expert visibility mode on, I can see planes that reflect sunlight up to ~40km away.  I'm positive of this because I've checked my map position in relation to planes over map targets I know are being attacked or are being patrolled by friendlies.  The problem I am having is that I just can't seem to be able to ID targets farther away from me than 1km.  I can tell if it's a fighter or a bomber but for fighters I have to constantly fly nearly in formation with them to really even see their basic silhouette. Especially with the winter maps, I find I have to rely on staying on my team's side of the lines and hope friendly flak hasn't been destroyed.  It's the only way I can get a clue what the plane is unless I engage them and then break off if I see it's a friend.  Sometimes that's not even good enough when a handful of planes are close to an enemy and flak is surrounding everybody.  My friendly fire score has gone up drastically since the visibility change and it's getting frustrating. I only rarely had this problem with the original/legacy visibility and that was mostly when I was still learning the game.  It's also caused me to get into situations where I lose all advantage on an opponent trying to figure out what they are and overshooting or not be able to stay unseen myself.  For planes that I'm dead 6 on that have similar view profiles, I usually have to get less than 500m away to really ID them.

This is subjective I know, but, it seems to me that something with the lighting is a bit off and also the model scale is a bit too small at the 1 to 5 km range.

I'm running 1080 x 1920 Ultra settings on a 50" led TV.

You should make a video and post the track files along with your settings when you see things like this. That’s the only way to clearly communicate these things if it’s a bug. It is actually possible IRL to see reflections from very far away. Maybe this is functioning as intended. Although 40km seems quite far.

Basic unedited YouTube vids is the extent of my skill.  I'm guessing I'll need a dropbox or something to share in-game tracks?  I'll do what I can but make no guarantees.

Yes, a YouTube works to show what you personally are seeing. The tracks allow others to try and replicate the problem plus in contains info for the Devs. You do need Dropbox or something to transfer the files, they’re too large to post on the forum.

PS It is actually possible to edit the tracks within the game
