I'm more or less happy with it. I've stared at it so long I'm hoping if anyone downloads it and finds a glaring issue, they'll let me know. Two versions are available. Full D-Day markings and the more subdued D-Day markings used later in the summer and fall of 1944. While the actual aircraft shown in the first picture has the name Mildred on it, the Mustang was assigned to Lt. Kit Carson shortly after D-Day and does carry his kill markings during that time. I think it's safe to say Carson flew it in these full D-Day bands at least on the short term. The second picture shows this same P-51D now nicknamed Nooky Booky II with the same five kills but without the complete D-Day markings. Carson completed his first tour in this P-51D and then passed it along to another pilot where it was renamed. He flew another P-51 at the start of his second tour aptly named Nooky Booky III that was nearly new when it was badly shot up on a strafing mission and then scrapped. Only a couple of pictures have surfaced of that Mustang. Those showed it with a full camo paint job that seems to have been very popular in the 357thFG at that time. Maybe some more photographs will pop up as it would be nice to have all of his P-51s represented in this series. He also flew a P-51B when he first arrived in the ETO early in 1944. I'm sure someone will knock that one out as soon as we get the "B" issued to us. After the war, Kit Carson stayed in the USAF and became an aeronautical engineer and a pretty good writer. His book, PURSUE and DESTROY is excellent and well worth reading. It was based on a series of articles he had written in 1975 and 1976 for Wings and Airpower magazine. I wish he'd written more. My next project will be something without any damn ETO stripes, D-Day band or anything else needing alignment. Thanks to 361st_Ripper for sharing his 357thFG nose colors with me along with ICDP for his template. All comments are welcome. Edited December 15, 2019 by Rjel Released 9 2 1
Rjel Posted December 5, 2019 Author Posted December 5, 2019 (edited) Almost ready. I had to make the Nooky Booky nickname by hand as I couldn't find a font that was close. I think it turned out pretty well. Markings are as close as I can make them. Spoiler The annotations on this photograph are not mine. Edited December 5, 2019 by Rjel 1 1
SOLIDKREATE Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 The nose art on the plane looks like it say's something else? Do you have another photo?

The original name was Mildred as shown in the first picture. In my last post that is hidden because of the swastika kill markings, the photo shows it as Nooky Booky 2. 1
