Rjel Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I first heard of this book while reading 1000 DESTROYED: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE 4th FIGHTER GROUP by Grover Hall. Never have seen it til I found this PDF. Worth a read for anyone who's a fan of WWII USAAF pilots. http://archive.org/details/OneManAirForce 1
=69.GIAP=MALYSH Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Rjel, thank you so much. An absolutely fascinating, frank look at the psychology of air combat. The conversational style of the pilot just speaking, at a time of high stress, to an observer really comes through in the writing. Not the clearest, most chronological style, but it loses nothing for it.
Rjel Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've long been an admirer of the 4thFG and it's history. BTW, the Internet Archive website is an absolute trwasure trove for history buffs. Boatloads of aviation videos, documentaries and the like. Almost anything you can think of is there for free.
Rjel Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) Here is a dramatization of One Man Air Force. This was part of an NBC radio series broadcast during WWII based on popular war books of the time. I've become hopelessly addicted to Old Time Radio. Everything from Jack Benny to old news programs. If you've never listened to any give them a shot. Think of them sorta like books on tape. There are many hours of free content to download from Internet Archives. http://archive.org/details/WordsAtWar_995 Edited September 19, 2013 by Rjel
