Legioneod Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 So after further study it seems that there was little difference in speed between the bubbletop P-47s and Razorbacks, if there was a difference it was nearly always due to the prop and weight of the airplane. I've always been told that bubbletops were slower due to drag but that doesn't seem to be the case. In fact it seems the bubbletops were slightly faster even when using heavier loads if the same prop/power was used. D-26 vs D-23 for example. Both used the same Curtis electric paddle blade and both used same power settings. Speeds of both aircraft are nearly identical with a given prop/power yet the D-26 is 500lbs heavier in the chart shown. Design useful loads of the D-26 and D-23 are nearly identical with the D-26 being slightly heavier, both achieve about the same speed. In game the D-28 is quite a bit slower than a razorback given the same weight and power settings, I'm thinking this is due to the D-28 being modeled with the A.O. Smith prop instead of the curtis electric paddle prop.
