Normandy map and Battle of britain planes

Maybe we should appreciate that Battle of Normandy is coming before dreaming of greener pastures already? I'm pretty excited actually, especially about the map as it will enable all sorts of interesting scenarios, pre- as well as post-invasion.

I'm already practicing how to say BoSBoMBoKBoBPBoN really fast because that's what it sounds like when my Mustang takes five Minengeschoss somewhere in France.

Someone ages ago was working on making a flyable Ar 196 for the original IL2, but he was running up against the issue of lack of resources. Having a quick look around, it looks like more resources are available now, but I'd hardly call it a plane that'd be in high demand to be made flyable.

There is now a restoration being done here in Germany, so the resource situation should be much better now.

In my opinion the only scenario where a Ar-196 would really make sense is Battle of East Prussia. Arados of  Bordfliegergruppe 196 flying from Pillau-Neutief or from German Cruisers were quite active as artillery spotters and also flew ground attack missions. Apparently they even scored some kills.

Was there ever a land based version of the 196?  I ask because there was a fixed gear version of the OS2U Kingfisher that was operated by the RAF in North Africa, and the USN operated land based versions of their Curtiss SOC Seagull.

I believe that was Majesty5. He got all hung up with not having enough info about the radio in the rear seat position.

Howdy Cloyd.  Good to see you again.  Still not found Gidney yet?

Hope all is well with you.

Cheers,  EL

Heya El. Good to see you too. I'm doing well. Turns out it was a good time to get retired/fired. Now I don't have to feel guilty about sitting on my ass at home. How's swamp life?

Gidney hasn't been a very reliable wingman since the 60's. I think he spent too much time spacing out.
