I agree. Larger calibers would be too powerful upon detonation. On a stationary target 20 mm HE explodes about 30 cm behind initial impact and leaves a neat 2 cm entry hole. But this is obviously a hit from behind. This would also make the projectile slow enough to denonate fast enough, while still being in contact with the rear side of the propeller. There are probably no other (or very few) hits on the aircraft, that would indicate a lucky hit by flak indeed. If it was MG-151/20, I'd expect more hits on the aircraft of the other pilot landed such a close hit.
