We have 2456830043 Bf-109 ( and a few Yak,Mig) campaigns but not a single playable Stuka campaign after all these years. Why is this so? IIRC, Netscape did a really good one, a few years back but it was deleted by the author himself for some reason. My questions are: What are the difficulties? Bugs in the AI? Bugs in the Mission editor? Bugs in general? No support from the community? Too little beer in the fridge? 1
namhee2 Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Unfortunately, making a campaign is not that easy:1) At least 6 months of exercise with the mission editor2) imagine a good senario ...3) Intensive research in specialist literature4) A lot of patience and lots of coffee (or beer)5) And previously agree with the partner6) test7) and again testing 1

And how can this possible problems be solved? I´m pretty sure I´m not the only one here who want´s to fly this bird in a scripted campaign. For example: I know from PWCG that the dive altitude is fixed to 4000m.

For example: I know from PWCG that the dive altitude is fixed to 4000m. A Ju-87 campaign has all the issues of any other campaign, and it seems to be less popular than other planes. So its a lot of work for a small(er) audience. Also IIRC there are some problems with the AI for the Ju-87 not working well in dive bombing but I'm not sure that still applies.

I mean the problem is the same as with any aircraft...someone has to decide to spend all of that time and do it. Netscape did it, but AI issues became...well an issue and he dropped it. Attack behavior/hard code has been an ongoing issue for all aircraft in one way or another. That said it comes back to the first thing - same answer as with every aircraft...some have been chosen at this point, some have not. Some never will be.
NETSCAPE Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 It has been awhile since I tested the Ju-87 AI. The last tests I did while I was making a "new" Stuka campaign had FAR worse results than when I made "Sirens of Death" (which for awhile functioned quite good with an exception to a low max cruise speed limitation). Laying in folders I have plans or half made missions & campaigns for Ju -87, Hs-129 and He-111. Mostly on the Stalingrad map because there are plenty of historical scenarios to choose from which I find very interesting/fun... Various issues halted my campaign work such as: AI can't maintain speed properly, can't make a tiny turn without breaking formation badly, have abysmal climb rate, Hs-129s just fry their engines... and last time I checked Stuka dive bombing rarely worked and when it did they dropped from much too high of altitude... ect ect. I made a handful of AI reports about this stuff quite awhile ago. Though I don't play IL-2 too much these days I would still be inspired to make a KG55 and StG2 campaign for BOS if the AI were improved... Especially taking into account I now live on a farm and can't play multiplayer due to 600ms ping lol. I think people might have more fun if Stuka missions were at full Staffel Strength with proper formations/changes and dive attack abilities. Other wise it is kind of boring and non-immersive. Dive bombing the Tractor Factory with 11 other Stukas felt pretty awesome. But I understand many people probably view the Stuka as "boring", but...
