Sully-- Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 I'm using a laptop with the Oculus Rift S and it works fine, but see this thread. It looks like my system is only slightly better than yours. -Sully

adonys Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 I'm playing IL2 in VR using a Clevo laptop with Valve Index (see signature for specifications). Thing is, the Clevo notebook has both processor and videocard in desktop variants (and that's why they are so expensive compared with the common notebooks)

Marvel Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Hi Rani, I think the laptop could be ok for VR, is similar to Adonys one, but as YoYo said check if GC has the DP. Ciao! M
ITAF_Rani Posted November 25, 2019 Author Posted November 25, 2019 (edited) Should be ok.... Edited November 25, 2019 by ITAF_Rani
YoYo Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 (edited) It looks like in this laptop you have mini display port: https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GL75-9SX/Specification. Will be ok but buy connector. Just I dont know about refresh rate here (maybe 60 hz only). Edited November 25, 2019 by YoYo
Marvel Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Hi Rani, yes, is a mini display port. What kind of VR headset do you think to buy? I think Reverb has a mDP adapter in the box. I will check later if you wish. The Reverb request a usb3.0 port also. Ciao! M
ITAF_Rani Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 I' m thinking at an oculus rift S that has an adapter for the mini DP. Don t know at moment....
Marvel Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Ok, I think is a good choice. From what you hear on the net Oculus, Reverb, Pimax and Index are the most quoted... Ciao! Marco
ITAF_Rani Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 With this laptop, how many FPS do you think I could get using an Oculus rift S?
vonrickenbecker Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 Hey Rani, I don't think you'll have any issues with that laptop. My laptop has similar specs, but a lesser video card (GTX 1060 6gb). I'm able to run the game on balanced graphics preset with reprojection enabled. I don't know that any laptop will give you great graphics with 90fps, but if you're okay with using reprojection it works just fine. Reprojection tech has come a long way recently, much better than it used to be!
StaB/Tomio_VR*** Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 (edited) I don't think so because laptop RTX 2060 version is not same as normal RTX 2060... For information, mobile RTX 2080 is equivalent to normal GTX 1070 and the normal 1070 is the minimum to play VR with good condition on a normal computer Your mobile RTX 2060 is just slightly better than GTX 1060 6gb I'm ordering a laptop myself those days and i choosed a laptop with RTX 2080 because you can upgrade memory but not the graphic chip Edited November 28, 2019 by StaB/Tomio_VR***

Many txs I get a solid 45 FPS rendering from the game (which means 90 FPS with reprojection on). I will occasionally get some stutters and 2-4 FPS drop if I turn clouds on or have many aircraft in the sky. I'm mostly a SP guy, so I can't comment on performance in multiplayer, although I think I may have heard others say that performance in multiplayer is a litter better (as some things are being calculated by server's hardware, not just your local machine). Contact spotting is going to be more a function of your HMD than the computer itself I think. I use a Lenovo Explorer HMD (WMR), and spotting contacts isn't difficult, but Identifying them can be at times. If you want to experiment with VR just to see if you like it, you can probably get a pretty good black Friday deal and not spend too much money. My Lenovo WMR headset was only $99 on black Friday last year. Hope this helps!

vonrickenbecker Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 1 hour ago, ITAF_Rani said: Could you explain more about reprojection and where I can get it? Reprojection is built into the software driving your headset, so accessing settings for it will depend on the type of headset you have. Most will have some sort of reprojection enabled by default. Basically what it does is render the game at 45 fps (half of your headset's refresh rate), then interpolate between frames to give 90fps at the screen.
