"A better man."

I remember part of a quote from the days of WWI aviation;  it speaks of air combat and ends by saying that, if you lose, "you met a better man."

 

I've Googled it without any luck.  Does anyone know the author or source of that saying?

You should have tried Binging instead. It's by Cecil Lewis, presumably from Sagittarius Rising. Nothing to do with this.

Duhh.  And I have that book, too.  Thanks.  Needed that for a writing project and had forgotten where I'd seen it.
