PhalicPhalicTheImpaler Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Is it just me or is the AI smarter in Base Plate?
Gambit21 Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 The AI is under development - so it’s different across the board/all modules.
Thad Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Excuse my ignorance.... but what is Base Plate? ?

Lord_Strange Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 I've found the enemy AI a little more competent than before but my allies (at least in the Bodenplatte career) are absolutely useless most of the time.
danielprates Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 In my experience your own team mates' AI still leaves something to be desired but the opponents are certainly smarter. Dogfighting them is for sure more challenging. They seem more .... sassy?
ShamrockOneFive Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 The aggression and number of tricks that they use seem to have gone up over the last few patches. I've noticed it's been a slow thing but it seems like their new AI programmer has been making incremental updates and the last dev diary detailed a few more. Good progress! 1 4
GreenSound Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 (edited) Not for me. Today half the Luftwaffe (really about 10 planes) chased me for miles and miles deeper into Allied territory until they didn't even have enough fuel to get back to their own territory. And why does it seem like everytime I fly, we are outnumberd 2 or 3 to 1? I love the game, but if these two issues were fixed, it would be even more fun, and I wouldn't have to cheese it so often. I don't seem to have either of those problems in Msocow, Kuban, or Stalingrad Though I will admit that the actual fight AI has improved and vertical fighting is much much more common than it used to be in earlier versions of the game, which is awesome. I'm sure everything will be worked out soon enough Edited November 22, 2019 by GreenSound 1

I think my beef with the friendly AI is that you have only a partial interaction with them. You arrive at the mission target and a preset routine will happen, where "you" automatically order them to attack for instance, when "real-you" didn't want them to. Ordering them around doesn't seem to help too, they will do some things and won't do others. But I agree, when it comes to the actual flying, they do behave all the same.
Yardstick Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 One of my biggest issues is AI wingmen spotting enemy aircraft well beyond my visual range and then pealing off to engage. Firstly, this can threaten the assigned mission objective but more importantly they leave formation with no communication that they are doing so. It’s very common to glance over my shoulder to find all my flight gone! 5
JonRedcorn Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 When a game released in 2001 has way better AI than a game released in 2019 something aint right. ? Can only hope for better wingman control in the future.
danielprates Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 I don't mind relinquishing them to do whatever the hell they want, as long as at least "break", "rejoin" and "maintain formation" functioned correctly. There is nothing worse than not having control about where and when they decide to sprint against any target, or if they will return or not. 1
BlitzPig_EL Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 At least with the WW2 birds they sometimes will obey your order. No such luck with the WW1 kites. NO radios, and they never see your hand gestures either. Numpties all.

That is a mission-design issue, not anything to do with AI. 1
PaladinX Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 At the end we must conclude, the current situation with AI makes singleplayer close to unplayable. ? 1 1
LLv34_Flanker Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 S! AI stands for Advanced Idiot, not Artificial Intelligence. Far from it.
