II./SG.1-MarkWilhelmsson Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 I've gleaned a couple deaths online because my bailout button would only jettison the cockpit but not have the pilot jump. Even in a perfectly good plane flying straight and level I've tried it, all that happens is the canopy pops off. Tried rebinding multiple times as well to no avail.
US63_SpadLivesMatter Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 Sometimes I have to press again to bail after the canopy goes. Remember G forces play a role.
RedKestrel Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 G forces, speed and pilot injury can prevent bailing out. Does this happen all the time or only after combat?
CUJO_1970 Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 As noted above, primarily a function of speed and G-force now with physiology added - and imagine being too wounded to jump as happened unfortunately. We are not used to hitting the bail out button more than once in the past. Now we often have to. I've actually had to slow a plane down and hit bail again to get the pilot to actually jump. Also - in real life, every aircraft had a specific bailout procedure. 1

[APAF]VR_Spartan85 Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 I’m always spamming the bailout... But also in practice, if I still have control, slow up the ship, pop canopy, pull negative g or go inverted, fly out.... if out of control, recover as much as possible while spamming bailout

[DNKN]GoNuts4Donuts17 Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 It's likely due to the physiology as others stated. Yesterday I had an instance where after a couple successful diving and slashing attacks on a Pe-2, my third attack resulted in his wing shearing off and flying all over the place right into my starboard wing and taking it with it. I was at about 2000m and was able to pop the canopy, but the speed and flat spin wouldn't let me bail after multiple frantic presses. After cutting the throttle back completely and being able to "straighten" the plane out using lots of rudder was I able to finally jump out at about 1100m, which seemed like an eternity fighting with my 109.

I'll give it another try next time I am on. But as I mentioned in the original post, I've tried the bail key even in a fresh plane flying straight and level with zero damage and it didn't work; only the canopy popped.

As an experiment, the next time before you press whatever key combo you have assigned, trim nose down...full down...then let go of the stick and attempt to bail out.
von_Michelstamm Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 I timed it, after a hard g fight it took almost two minutes in a 109f4 to be able to getoutski. It's weird. i'd like some hint (heavy breathing? heartbeat?) that i'm too messed up to function normally, waiting and clicking a button while looking at the dash clock is immersion killing. Also, wouldn't an exhausted pilot still be able to invert the plane and drop out using gravity? I wish that worked in those situations. 1
CountZero Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 Its not bug its your speed, if you fly faster then 400kmh you cant bail out, you can blow up canopy but your pilot will not bail out. So you have to press bail out again when you get below 400kmh (pilot will not bail out automaticly if you dont press again, when you first pres bail out when you were going abow 400kmh). Before it was only effecting vvs fighters now axis finaly have same expiriance
Mauf Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 Hint: try rolling inverted (if you still can) and then try ejecting. Increases your chances of getting out it seems. 1
