But I guarantee that the 1944-45 aircraft, whether they are German, Japanese, British, American, or Russian, are going to be very popular.

Aircraft from any time period will be popular for different people and reasons, we know the outcome of all the battles from all the theaters of WWII but everyone will always wonder what if this or that had happened, it is great to speculate and try and play out a different scenario, early or late matters not to me but we do all have certain preferences, for me early war but I can see the appeal of late war as well, that is what makes these series of battles so interesting being able to compare the reality and the might have been.

Hopefully the team will stay together for many years to come and provide us all with the areas we most desire.;)

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

Others may like playing the dommed vs the victor, and there is a place for that of course.  They're just not my personal favorites.

I personally don’t get it.

In your own personal little transient corner of the fake war nothing is guaranteed. The fake war didn’t exist before you booted up, and ceases to exist when you log off.

Further, you could die in and lose a P-40 when in reality no P-40’s were lost that day.

Even though individual, early PTO battles could have gone either way - big picture Japan was doomed from the get-go, but that doesn’t make it less fun to fly a Zero.

All that said I preferre early war crates, thus early war scenarios. Zero/Wildcat, 109E/Rata, P-40/Oscar, Zero/Wildcat, Zero/Wildcat, Zero/Wildcat...

...and after typing that and thinking for a few minutes...I also kinda know what you mean. :)

Give me a Ki61 over the jungles of New Guinea and I'll be a happy camper.

Meh - that plane was inconsequential - I can take it or leave it. It’s just not a Zero.

On the 19th of August, they shot down 106 aircraft for the cost of 48.

That was one day and generated 1/5 of the entire year's losses. And that day was the Dieppe Raid. The Germans generally withdrew from forward airbases in 1941, forcing the RAF to waste pilots and planes on edge of range fighter sweeps, which is why their loss to kill ratio was so lopsided.

It's my favorite Japanese aircraft, by far.  Second comes the Ki27, then the Ki84, then the Ki43.  I like the army types, though I do have a soft spot for the A6M2N, and of course the Emily, my precious.

I'm not against it, but don't we have enough Bf-109 look alikes already? I've heard a lot of complaining about too many 109s, or another 109 campaign complaints, and even I think if they go PTO all the other IJA planes would be preferable to yet another DB 601 engined plane. Ki-43 Forever!

The Japanese type I always liked in IL-2 1946 was the Ki-43, something about the look just makes it seem right, whether it handled anything like a real one or if any aircraft from any simulator is actually anything like what it purposes to replicate, who knows, I was not there.;)

I fired a single mission up in 46 last night and took a Zero for a quick spin, it ended up with me in a parachute and the plane making a hole in the ground, nothing new there in my case that would have happened anyway it was not the Zeros fault, blame the P-40.

The Zero is elegant though I will give you that, but I like the earlier Japanese types like the Ki-27, has a certain character, give me early war all the time wherever it is.:drinks:

Is it me or is this waiting for the new theater really getting tedious, surely the guys know by now, let it go so we can start the next round of two yer speculating.

Anyway, all I really want is my Hurricane, you can keep all them Uber planes.:thank_you:

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

We don´t. We are still missing three of the most important versions of the 44/45 timeframe.
