I was privy one afternoon to be pretty close to a Thud taking off as I was holding at a runway waiting for crossing clearance inside my fuel truck as one of these began opening up the exhaust nozzles and compressing the nose gear strut one summer.

 

I don’t know if it was just the summer air being humid and make proximity and angle to it but loudest damn thing I’ve ever heard.*

 

*Those damn USAF tweety birds were the most obnoxious though by far
