jollyjack Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Hi, is there a reason to get more RAM installed than 16GB in an i7 9700K PC, Windows 64bit PRO?
dburne Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Depends on the games you run. For IL-2 16Gb is fine, at least currently. 1
WallysWorld Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 (edited) I built a new machine in September and did quite a lot of research on whether to install 16 or 32 GB of RAM. I settled on 16 GB as most websites say that is the sweet spot for gaming. 32 GB is needed for certain video editing applications and maybe nice to have for a few heavy duty RAM games. Tom's Hardware 16 or 32 GB of RAM? Edited November 16, 2019 by WallysWorld
Jaws2002 Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 You are fine with 16GB for il'2. DCS used more than 16GB on occasions..
SvAF/F16_Goblin Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 (edited) Depending on the application but I have 32 GB 3.2 GHz 4x8 paired sticks for the best performance. DCS World likes memory ? Edited November 17, 2019 by Goblin
LLv34_Flanker Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 S! Interesting video on memory. I wonder if anyone commented to get flight sims as well as data points?
Sokol1 Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 (edited) In the game world, flight sim is virtually nonexistent. So use then as parameters in reviews will be meaningless for 99% of public target. ? The last site to do this was SimHQ ~10 years ago, before their reviews section have been disabled due to lack of interest. Maybe with MF FS2020 hype they became a bit more relevant. 69th_Panp Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 I've seen my memory usage peak at 10.9 gigs with some of the new maps after a few missions online

If there is spare RAM, it can leave it marked as in-use (as far as task manager is concerned) even when it has been freed. Edited November 17, 2019 by AndyJWest
Bostjan42 Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 I'm running 12GB DDR3s and IL2 runs perfectly fine. On the other hand DCS has issues (stuttering), but that was solved once I moved it to SSD.

Second, and just as important, our goal is to cover the latest hardware in detail with reliable and repeatable test data. This calls for a software suite that captures a broad cross-section of the simracing, flightsim, and space communities. With those goals in mind, we’ve chosen the following lauded sim-titles for our 2021 test suite: Simracing – Assetto Corsa Competizione Simracing – iRacing Flightsim – IL2 Sturmovik: Great Battles Series Flightsim – Digital Combat Simulator World (DCS) Space – Elite Dangerous: Horizons & Odyssey 1
