Hi,

I am experiencing a strange behavior since 4.001. My GPU usage is around 30-40% independent of graphical settings. Happens on monitor and VR. It is also unrelated to game mode. Career, scripted campaigns or quick missions behave all the same. Changing Low settings to high settings does also not influence the GPU load.

In VR I am capped at 40fps and dip down to 20fps. At the monitor I get standard 60 fps. But none the less it feels jagged.

System:

6700k @ 4.6GHz

1080Ti

32GB Ram @ 2133

Game is on a SATA SSD drive.

Newest Nvidia driver/MB BIOS

Anyone has some suggestions what can cause this and how I can narrow down the issue?

Thank you!

Have you checked in Nvidia to see if the card is set to high performance for power usage? sometimes after a driver or windows update power settings get reset. Also check your power setting in Windows. I found that  Windows had reset its power management mode to 'balanced' which was throttling my GPU and my CPU, and Nvidia's driver update had reset the card to a lower power management setting as well. It may not be your issue but its something to check regardless, if you haven't already.

Do you use windows task resource manager to see GPU workload or a 3rd party one? If the latter check if the clocks  of your gpu go to max the card can go up to. Also just for test disable in game v syn if enabled and fps limiter in game as well as nvidia control panel v sync. You will see if the workload increases and the uncpaped frames should go above 100 easily with your setup.

What I found during my test is that the GPU does not boost. Or at least not all the time. It stay at the base clock of 1500MHz and boots occasionally above this.

When I disable vsync in game and the in the nivida SW fps go to around 100. But still it does not feel as these are smooth 60+ fps. It feels really jaggy.

I did now crank all settings up to max to see if the GPU gets more load. And yes it is around 50%. But GPU still does not boost.

This happens only on IL2. Other applications run under normal boost conditions.

I did also delete the profile for IL2 under nvidia settings. No change.

Really strange that only IL2 does not set the GPU to boost.

Any thought?

Thank you!

You 100% sure you have it configured like this in nvidia control panel:

and that the temperatures do not go so high that some sort of throttling occurs?

Used Prefer maximum performance on global seetings  and Program Settings. No difference. Temperature is on ~60°. GPU runs on 1500MHz base clock.

DCS as an example runs fine with GPU on 2GHz.

TBH you got powerfull card maybe it does not need to run faster to give demanded frame rate (especially if you cap it samehow either via frame limiter or vsync ) I got 1080 non ti and it boosts to 1800MHZz but overal usage is like 30% to 70% depending on multiplayer map and wheather - and I need 72FPS for my gsync. If you want max load on GPU try nvidia inspector and force SGSSA to enchance in game 4x multisampling. Thing is that the stutter if you  get them seems to be independend of your gpu load so if you are trying to solve that you should take different approach. If you use gsync I suggest to limit your fps using MSI afterburner to 3 frames below refresh rate turn off in game vsync turn on nvidia vsync, run game full screen and drop shadows one level and disable ssa and hdr. Also u can try lowering in game camera smoothness to 0 if u got good head tracking profile you should be able to live with that.

Any update on this?  I got the same issue.  GPU usage is very low. I did a clean driver install and no help.  CPU isn't being fully utilized either.  50 planes in MP mode = same usage in MP 10 planes.  Difference is one is a VR slide show at ~60 FPS and the other is solid 90 FPS (at times).

GTX1080 TI and 7700k at 5 GHz.

If this is in MP then it may be issues with the server being limited, rather than your rig. Unless those 50 planes are all being rendered at the same time in the same area, I wouldn't expect your GPU to get hit any differently than if there were 10 planes on the server,. The GPU is only responsible for what you need to see. So your limiting factor is not your graphics hardware, but the server hardware and netcode, and how well it can supply the information you need. The server is loaded more when there are 50 planes than when there are 10, and if the information it is managing gets to be too much  it can't give you the information fast enough to support 90 FPS. The GPU is fine with its workload and extra capacity there won't help.

Really the limit is probably the engine and netcode in terms of MP.
