blitze Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 (edited) An interesting "stream" from Martin at VR Days showing the Pimax booth. Skip to 41.10 minute mark for some interesting commentary on the 8K-X Enjoy. Edited November 15, 2019 by blitze forgot the link
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 (edited) The problem is there are quite a few haters. Some original kickstarter backers that felt cheated by not getting HMD + Controllers + LH stations within the first year from the formerly start-up company. Some guys who cannot afford superior/high-end hardware, be it the GPU or the HMD itself. It's similar like with some guys saying nonsense like "this or that headset has a sharper image". The only other consumer headset with a sharper image on the market than the "good old" 5K+ is the Reverb. After going wide FOV, it's almost impossible to return to narrow anymore. To the 8KX, I'm really looking forward to. What was interesting is how many of the guys testing the 8K+ said that it would be very comparable to the 8KX, they could barely tell the difference. It's that good. Edited November 15, 2019 by SCG_Fenris_Wolf
blitze Posted November 16, 2019 Author Posted November 16, 2019 I know how they feel with regards to the controllers and base stations - still waiting myself but like you said - once you go wide - there's no going back. Also Valve didn't help with their hoarding of base stations for their launch of the Index. I'm looking forward to the increased clarity of the 8K-X over my original 8K and I should be able to get it whilst driving a lower render target. With the 8K for distance clarity, you really need to jack up the Render Resolution to blow through the scaler and poorer panels. Still - even with its hardware limits - the 8K VR experience has improved considerably over the year.
II/JG11_ATLAN_VR Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 (edited) coming from the rift cv1 and a gtx1060, i was very interested in pimax wide Headsets i dont pledge as a backer , so i preorder a 5kplus and basestations and controllers back in 2018. but as everybody knows nothing happened. so i cancel my order and i bought the 5k+ and used Controllers and basestations on eBay and naturally upgrade to a gtx1080ti and a pc with i7 7700k in 2019, and i sold my old cv1 and gtx1060. as Always i am very interested in pimax wide hms 8kx Technology, but also for me, this Company has really Problems with production, logistics and Transport delivery.and as a retired Person in Germany i really can not afford an another upgrade of gpu.so i have to wait and see, which in the case of pimax, is not so bad.
