Bo_Nidle Posted February 10, 2023 Author Posted February 10, 2023 (edited) "325th Fighter Group Skin Pack 2" : Razorbacks. (Now updated to V1.1) As promised here's the second Checkertail pack comprising of 4 named skins plus a blank for flight numbers. "11" 317thFS, flown by Major Herschel "Herky" Green (317th C.O.) (New V1.1 of this skin which has the correct red painted gun surrounds that I did but somehow deactivated and did not notice! Put it down to my advanced years.) "Little Bastard" 318thFS, flown by Lt Robert H. Brown (The misalignment and colour difference of the rudder to the tail fin is deliberate and done to match the period photo of this aircraft on page 52 of Ospreys "Aces of the 325th Fighter Group by Thomas G Ivie. It appears the aircraft had a replacement rudder fitted from another aircraft in the Group ). "Shimmy III" flown by Lt Col Chester L. "Chet" Sluder, C.O. of the 325th. (No ground crew details known at this time). "Dorothy II" 319thFS, flown by Captain Robert M. Barkey (Version 1.1) Download link: https://www.mediafire.com/file/3amcfwl0n2pklzu/325th+Skin+Pack+2+(V1.1).zip/file Edited February 12, 2023 by Bo_Nidle 10
SchlossA-10 Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 First off, I want to say thanks ever so much for the work you do on the skins. They are marvelous! I've downloaded your skins from way back in the original game and as someone who's really drawn to the game because of my love of the history, they have greatly added to the enjoyment factor. I was very pleased to see the "blanks" in your skin sets like that for the 325th FG, so please keep doing that. Maybe someday I'll try my own hand at skinning but I'm not holding my breath. I'd love to have skins and blank skins from every FG in the 8th and 15th AF that flew the mustang. One specific request if you ever get so inclined... please consider doing George Preddy's "B" model "Cripes A' Mighty". Thanks again!
Bo_Nidle Posted February 27, 2023 Author Posted February 27, 2023 Thanks SchlossA-10, always nice when my efforts are appreciated. I try to keep coming back to skinning but the "real world" keeps intruding....most annoying! I have been toying with doing Preddy's B....hopefully soon. Have a go yourself, if I can do it anyone can. But be warned, its addictive and your flying skills will suffer from the time you spend skinning. Cheers, Bo.
SchlossA-10 Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Just an FYI... the link to the download for "Man O'War" is broken.

"Tiger" Lyons, he named it after his cousin was killed in action flying P-47's with the 9th Air Force. I did this skin as a request earlier in the year but never got around to generally releasing it. I have updated it by trying it on a new metal finish I am tinkering with. Art was scratchbuilt by me. Kills on the skin are unedited. https://www.mediafire.com/file/y2y9pb4np6tfsv6/355thFG_Tigers_Revenge.zip/file I just got off the phone with Bill today. We’ve been friends for a little over three years now and he’s doing well. Next week we’re doing a zoom interview and he’s very excited. He’s sharp as a tack when it comes to his memory and recalling events of his time at Steeple Morden and with the 355th Fighter Group. 2
Bo_Nidle Posted July 3, 2023 Author Posted July 3, 2023 (edited) Opened up the paint shop again and decided to do a couple of lesser known P-51D's...."Glamorous Glen III" and "Old Crow"....I know, I know, they don't get any more well known than these two...only joking...it's good for morale. With "Glamorous Glen III" I have gone down a slightly different route by painting the name in red. There is a valid reason for this. If you carefully examine the name on a period photo of the aircraft you will see that the shade of the name paint matches the red paint of the check on the nose pattern. If the paint was black it would be far darker. It may have had a dark red outline when the letters were painted on or that may have been black, I am still looking into that. (It is noteworthy that a similar dark out line can be seen at the edges of the red check). I have depicted "Old Crow" in its natural metal finish after it had been stripped back to bare metal from its green and grey finish. When the ground crew did this they also removed the data stencils and data block. So these have been deliberately omitted. Swastika kills edited for forum screenshots only. They are available here: "Glamourus Glen III": https://www.mediafire.com/file/ok3qyyaxzc6zmqo/357thFG_Glamorous_Glenn_III.zip/file "Old Crow" Late 44: https://www.mediafire.com/file/hq9yiawn56kh3d5/357thFG_Old_Crow_Late_44.zip/file Edited July 4, 2023 by Bo_Nidle 8 1
