PatrickAWlson Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Reading some of the commentary and giving it some thought, it seems to me that the biggest impediment is mapping the map. So what do I mean by that ... 1. Map wood edges 2. Map hills, and especially crests for hull down. 3. Map water and places to traverse water 4. Map roads and paths along roads. 5. Map towns and paths through towns. That data set will allow for the creation of campaigns. Based on the data you could start to write algorithms for choke point defense, edge of wood placement, hull down or reverse slope emplacement, etc. Shoot and scoot becomes possible because you can determine where to shot from and where to scoot to. Without that data you are limited to very laborious hand placement or you just put stuff wherever. 2
Gambit21 Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Complex logic is also possible to help, triggers that keep a tank from being active/shooting until the player/other AI is clear of a tree line, therefore artificially "blinding" the AI that's behind the trees etc, but this is "hand building" scripting stuff. I'll sink my teeth into it one of these days perhaps. I have a very nice, atmospheric tank battle in the snow on the Rhineland map, but it's just for scenery purposes. I plan on turning it into a player mission eventually, but will take some of the trickery mentioned above. I think a tank map should have enough elevation, and strategic placement of trees to mitigate the LOS/Tree issue. If cleverly built this can help. (tanks behind trees are likely also behind a knoll, hill, slope etc. The map must be built with AI limitations in mind, not just "history" or geography in this case. I have yet to explore the purpose-built tank map, so maybe this is already the case. I likely will build something in the snow/fog, Battle of the Bulge. Have to stay on task for now though, my cue is full. 1
Thad Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 (edited) Ah, the old mission building 'smoke and mirrors' to simulate desired battlefield functionality. I know it well. ? Edited December 10, 2019 by Thad
SCG_Neun Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Way over my head. My mission building would be like painting by the numbers to a real artist I'm afraid. 1 1
vlad_8011 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 (edited) Is there any cheat codes for this game? I want to skip second russian mission "Counterattack" as i cannot move further in the campaign. After about 10 trials, that mission never ends. Is there any command to end mission? Edited December 12, 2019 by vlad_8011
Gambit21 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 What exactly are you attempting to illustrate with that movie? No you can’t skip - you must satisfy the mission objective logic...whatever that is for the particular mission.
vlad_8011 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 I wanted to ilustrate, that every enemy is dead and mission is not ending. Its like that every time.
Gambit21 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 What is the mission objective? Are you following the mission brief and/or instructions? Are you supposed to advance to a certain area? Why are you the only one with this problem?

There is no other way of doing the mission. Once i was even more to south and destroyed artillery, but that also didnt triggered anything. I am the only one who is writing about it, most of people play German Campaign as i see here. EDIT: I cant anything about soviet Campaign, only first mission is on YouTube. Looks like its left unfinished... so why it was released without info that second mission is impossible to finish? Edited December 12, 2019 by vlad_8011
Gambit21 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Strange - I know they tested thoroughly - hopefully someone will chime in and help. Might be a trigger that you’re somehow not hitting.

Might be a trigger that you’re somehow not hitting. It happened to me, too, Gambit. After taking the first village, the mission wouldn't advance any further even if I stayed on the waypoint marker for a long time. However, I was able to advance on my second attempt. I think the trigger was when the unmarked (no icon) IL-2s flew over and strafed the friendlies. Probably German-captured IL-2s.
vlad_8011 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 I finally, after 12 attempt finished mission - i had to disable everything in difficulty settings, including external camera, map icons etc. and last checkpoint showed on the map - INITIAL POSITIONS (retreat). 1
Guest deleted@219798 Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Yeah I've had the same problem with the 2nd mission Counterattack. Even after I've fulfilled all the mission parameters, I'm left hanging in the village. Supposed to be awaiting further orders, but they usually don't come. The last attempt, I destroyed the all the AT guns in the woods, a new route marker to the village should have appeared after that, but didn't. Got a message that all guns were destroyed. Double checked that all the AT guns were gone. Rest of the tanks went on to the village. Captured the village and defeated the German tanks approaching from the West. TAB showed that both secondary missions had been completed but primary mission was still in progress. Eventually you do get through this mission after a few tries, but it shouldn't have to repeated because of these glitches.
WWBayonet Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 After 10 attempts at Breaking Point Msn 06, I give up. We take the village, there are zero enemy around other than those "captured" il2's that strafe and then just buzz around. I took the dog for a 1/2 hour walk, game speed 8x, and I came back to those Il2's still aimlessly flying around us. Also, I'm unable to achieve my last WP as it appears to be 1m below ground, so even right over it, I'm 1m away. I'll try the German campaign I guess. Pity it doesn't work, as I paid for it. A flowery historical description without the ability to finish the mission, does not a good mission make.
Goosevich Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 Kinda weird since in previous iterations this campaign worked flawlessly, huh (yeah i know i sound like THAT c*nt). Listen - get to that moment again and put the driver into autopilot (by default - switch to drivers position and press CTRL+A). I noticed that waypoints in official missions in this patch are really, and i mean REALLY specific.
WWBayonet Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 Nope, I tried again with Auto-pilot on. It went to every WP except the last one which appears. I switched off Auto -pilot and drove to the WP. Imagine a screenshot of a WP showing 0.0m on the floor, right between the Driver and MG man. Mission would not end. Il2's continue strafing like they have unlimited ammo.
Goosevich Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 Sh*t im outta ideas right now. I'll have to replay that mission myself now i'm that curious (maybe i'll manage to find time asap). Sorry.

That is usually indicated in the mission briefing.
Guest deleted@188321 Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Thad, I think this might be a bug. I've beat the German campaign, but I too am having trouble with that mission and triggering the success event.
Thad Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Come on guys. It is a simple question. What does the mission briefing say the objectives are? If indeed it does. There may be a bug.... I don't know. But what are the designated objectives of the mission? If you achieve them and the mission doesn't complete... there may indeed be mission coding bug.

But as long as you are in a Tiger you're quite safe. Call that an overdeveloped Tank, now the rest LoL. Gimme capable T34 and Sherman underdogs, or a Fast Willy with AntiTank weaponry capable at killing tigers.

I noticed that waypoints in official missions in this patch are really, and i mean REALLY specific. Actually, mission problems after this games updates aren't that unusual. While learning to use the mission editor, I created some single player training missions that featured multiple aircraft types flying various mission types on the Lapino map. They all worked flawlessly. After game updates some of them simply would no longer work or even load into the mission editor for examination or correction. After the latest update, some problems were created but I was able to save All Missions in File and they began working properly again and I was able to post an update to the missions. This may be happening to missions in campaigns too. Unfortunately, we don't have access to official campaign files for investigation, (why, I really don't know). 1
